I was in the living room dusting just now and looked out the front window and saw our first hummingbird of the season!!! This is always so exciting for me! Last year the first one was spotted May 7th. We are about 30 miles west of Chicago. So happy they are back! :-)

I've been feeding for a good month here in Western Oregon because we have Anna's that overwinter here. Until today I only saw that the feeder was getting empty twice a week, but today when I was re-hanging it from washing and re-filling, and trying to make sure the top cover got set on tight, up zipped a little female Anna's buzz-bomber less than two feet from my face, and she told me in no uncertain terms to get a move on, she was hungry! All our birds are getting quite used to me, I get the "Waiter, waiter, our feeder is getting empty, fill it up again, please!" at least twice a day! The Stellar's jays are the loudest, but the black-headed grosbeaks are starting to learn to complain, and there are quite a gang of them!

Our hummers arrived a couple of days ago. Feeders up and ready🙂. They brought the good weather and the black flies! I am in Nova Scotia. LM

Saw our first hummingbird on 5/18 , only a week after hanging a new feeder out there. It's right by a kitchen window near the sink, so we get to see them easily . I hadn't fed them for the past two years , so I'm so thrilled they found us again. They do have incredible memories tho ; they returned to the same window searching for the feeder , the first year I stopped feeding them. I can't even find where I left my keys, a day after using them , lol.
We've seen green ones with ruby throats & a green variety with white rings around their throats . Unfortunately I don't know their names . I will read about them tho .

WELL IT's about time!
Here I've been SLAVING over a HOT STOVE, preparing the BEST possible hummingbird nectar, and since May 3, I hadn't seen ONE LITTLE BIRDIE, until yesterday!!!!!!!
So between 7am and dusk yesterday, we had 7 sightings, each time one single female.
At least now, I HAVE HOPES!!!!!

I am in southern WV, and our hummers showed up nearly 3 weeks ago, although other local family members had their hummers by early May. A member of our local news team showed a picture of her first hummingbird on April 4th; she lives just across the state line between WV and VA.
We have 5 females and 1 male at our feeder. Since we took our clothesline down, our feeder is now located on the front porch, which gives my husband the opportunity to watch them throughout the day. He is enjoying them so much, and keeps a watchful eye on the feeder in case it's time to prepare more food! Great entertainment for him.
