Another question for all you excellent gardeners

My daughter sent me this photo with this description:

"looks purple and green with little blooms and also has a bunch of little thorns and also hornets nests".

Anyone know what this is?

@Snicks1 Those bushes are gorgeous, but, oh, those thorns are horrid.

I agree -European barberry bush.

 

Go at dusk to spray insecticide into hornets nests. That is when they congregate for the night.

And use one of the wasp/hornet sprays that let you stand well back. Many have a ten foot or longer spray to keep you out of the stinger area.
