I was shocked that item M69933 , a mum by Robertas was selling for $28 plus S&H.  A comparable local mum of similar size from a nearby gaden center would cost around $12. Seniors need to be aware to price shop during these challenging economic times. I cannot justify spending over $30 for a Mum.

IMO the vast majority of what the Q sells is overpriced

@Reever

In the past I've ordered many, many plants, etc. from QVC, both Roberta's and Cottage Farms and never had much luck with them at all.

I finally got smart and stopped ordering plants that need to be shipped.

I get much better prices and healthier plants at local garden centers, even WalMart.

Re: $28 for a Mum ?

[ Edited ]

I completely agree - $28 for a mum is crazy. Luckily, there is no shipping fee on plants, but I feel like part of the ridiculousness of these prices is because they are lumping shipping fees in with the high price.

I know they are making a big deal out of the fact that these are perennials, but many are and they are easy to find at any garden center or local nursery.  I buy mine at a farm in upstate NY and they are usually 3 for $20.  They are lush and full of gorgeous fall color that last until I decorate for Christmas in November.

I have grown mums as perennials and they are kind of annoying.  lol  They start growing as full bushes by the time July rolls around where I live.  They form buds and have to be cut back to start growing all over again so they are ready for fall.  I kept them for two years and then ripped them out.  I didn't like having these green mounds all summer long where I could have had bright summer color.

That is just crazy.  I bought two pots of mums yesterday at a local nursery and I paid $7.99 per pot and they are really full, beautiful plants!    Shipping was free, courtesy of my explorer, LOL!

@Reever You seem to post a lot about what things cost.  I don't understand your shock.  As with sizes, colors, shapes and people, things come in a wide variety of differences.

I think the goal now is to become more accepting of differences in flowers, prices, tastes, colors and people and not be shocked as much by differences, but accept them and say well, that's not my price, color, size, shape, religion, or whatever.

Just enjoy what YOU like, want, need and appreciate and let others to the same and it's all ok isn't it?  As long as we are not forced into what we want, like or buy.

Price aside, plants grown by local growers are used to the local environment.  That's a big asset right there.  Even locally, I would rsther pay a truly local gorwer a bit more rather thsn going to the big chains that ship in everything from who knows where.

Just got back from a Costco run.  They had HUGE mums for only $14.99.  In several colors, orange and yellow and I think dark red.

The Amish greenhouse sells beautiful ones for $13. This year I decided not to get real mums or pumpkins and have decorated using some lighted scarecrows from a recent Big Deal on Q2.
