Long live the Queen.

They wouldn't say that if it was free...LOL  But it costs the taxpayers billions of dollars a year to maintain the Monarchy.  Yes, it's been reduced in recent years but they are still paying a fortune for a system that really is antiquated.  It's maintained, of coure, for the historical connection but also because it's a big tourist drawer.  That's what people want to see when they visit; the pomp and circumstance.  That's why they go on those state visits; the pictures, that are shown all over the world bring in the tourists and tourism dollars.

I think she truly does her part and helps the economy @chrystaltree

"According to Forbes, Queen Elizabeth II had an estimated net worth of $530 million as of 2016. Forbes also reports the British monarchy "contributes nearly £1.8 billion to the UK economy" annually, including £550 million in tourism.May 6, 2019"

The problem with that is the 1.8 billion is far less than what it costs the taxpayers to support the whole royalty system.  It's still very much a drain on public funds.  Of course no one can put a monetary figure on how much tourism they pull in vs the public expenditure.  Even Charles knows it's a problem and that's why he has already said that when he becomes King, he intends to scale the monarchy back considerably.
