does anybody remember socks that had a brown leather sole stitched to the bottom? i can't remember what they're called? i know it's a slipper sock but i thought they had a specific name?
My grandmother discovered slipper socks must have been in late '50s, and one Christmas everyone in the family got a pair. I don't remember their formal name but it wasn't the ones already mentioned.
I wonder how one laundered socks with leather soles.
@Bookplate. Like shoes, I don't think they were laundered. Also the knitted portion was 100% wool. Boy, were they warm. There really weren't socks, sort of hybrid slippers.
The Vermont Country Store used to carry them, but I don't know if they still do. I think they were just called Slipper Socks. The sole was leather and the sock part was wool and they also had a style made of cotton instead of wool.
They still sell them...I bought a pair a couple of years ago for my husband - they have the logo for his favorite college football team. Even though they have a soft leather sole, I put them in a little laundry bag and put them in the wash machine. I air-dried them and they turned out just fine. He said they're very warm....almost too warm!
