Re: "Refreshing" your wardrobe

I refresh my wardrobe as needed.  I try to take good care of my clothes, and I buy classic pieces so I don't need to refresh everything every year.  All my clothes are in one small closet and a few dressers.  I do not switch out for seasons.

I always buy new short sleeve white t-shirts every spring and long sleeve ones in the winter.  They just get worn from so many washings and wearings. I usually buy a few new tops in spring and a few in fall.  I like to have a few things to wear with botttms I already own. I don't need to refresh pants or skirts very often unless my weight changes.  That happened several years ago, and it was a huge expense to replace all those items.

As far as purging I don't follow the one in - one out rule. I always keep a bag in the basement for things I don't want anymore. I get rid of things that I am tired of wearing, or that shrank, or that are uncomfortable, or were just a bad buying decision.  If I have to convince myself to keep it, then it probably needs to go.  A great question that works for me is "Would I buy this today?" That helps me make lots of decisions.

Re: "Refreshing" your wardrobe

Me too.........Just a guilty pleasure. I shop for others too not just me. We just did not have lots of clothing growing up. Mom sewed but not well. I hated shopping for fabric and looking at patterns. Our cousins sent us used clothing that even for our needs were just worn out.

Something about shoes......we got one pair of school shoes-usually brown Old Main Loafers. Then you got white keds for school gym with your name in permanent marker on the outside edge. For summer we had 50c flip flops from dime store.

You could really tell the girls from affluent families from us regular kids. That difference has infuenced me all my life.

I guess this is off topic.................

Re: "Refreshing" your wardrobe

Wardrobe refreshing is an ongoing activity for me.  I love to get out and shop, and I do that 2 or 3 times a week.  I'm always on the lookout for that perfect item.  Sometimes I find one item, sometimes several, sometimes nada.  Purging is also an ongoing activity.  My new rule is, except for the rare item, if I don't wear it within a week or two, if I don't love it, it gets returned or donated.
