I don't feel bad. I support my local businesses. I live very rural and know the owners of the stores around me. When you know the owners personally, you know where your money is going. It's not going to a 3rd vacation mansion, the money they make goes to putting their children through school, etc. I love shopping local.

@ID2. You keep saying this and never come back to read answers. Did it ever occur to you not everyone has little boutiques or clothing stores in their local downtown area?
We have a jewelry shop, couple of trophy shops, restaurants, bars, hair salons, nail salons,deli’s etc. so those are supported, but NO clothing stores!

@proudlyfromNJ Exactly. My town has nothing for clothing stores other than Kohls and TJ Maxx. One town over is a Marshalls. I guess situations outside of one's own world never occur to some people. My town has two upscale jewelry stores that I can't afford.
As for Amazon I agree that retail is destroying retail. Understaffed poorly run stores and overpaid clueless executives.

@Greeneyedlady21. She’s been talking about Mom and Pop local stores, not ones like kohl’s, Marshall’s, etc. I have the same chains that you do but no Mom and Pop ones.

@proudlyfromNJ "boutiques"

I think online shopping is helping to destroy retail. On the other hand, if retail had reasonable prices, and didn't play with people, more people would shop in B&M stores.

The suburban town I live in has no clothing stores. It’s a good half hour drive to the mall, so I rarely do it. I have very good luck shopping online at Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, Talbots, LLBean, and Coldwater Creek. I can only wear petites, and that is all I buy because the cost of alterations here are through the roof. At my age, running around a mall has lost its charm.
We also rely on Amazon for certain items. We are also quite a distance from Lowe’s or Home Depot, as well. And the nearest bookstore is a distance away. We do have the usual businesses, including a CVS nearby. We do love our home and where we live, and buying from the internet has made our lives so much easier in our senior years.

The other day I was in Whole Foods and a woman was scanning her food and I asked her if it’s an app to save money. She said it’s prime membership. I told her I do not have prime well the look she gave me. You would a thought I said a bad word. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Do you also buy all of your “basic essentials” in local boutiques? Plain socks, men’s t-shirts, etc. These basic essentials seem to be the opposite of what boutiques sell.
O/T you may know your local retailers, but probably don’t know where your $$ is going.

I live in a large city close to the suburbs. We have strip malls everywhere between here and "downtown". I haven't seen a "boutique" in more than twenty years, either in the malls or in center city.
