bought a lightweight hoodie on ebay & it has a strong stench of perfume...suggestions please

@alohakz Just laundering it should take care of it, but you could add vinegar to the wash load to be sure.

I buy a lot of clothes thrifting and I run across the same problem. I will put a few drops of tea tree oil in the cap with the liquid detergent and put into the machine.

For strong smells, I'll use 8-10 drops and wash as usual.It usually does the trick.

Sorry I'm not much help here because I haven't tried it yet, but I just bought some of the Downy Rinse and Refresh that's supposed to help with odor removal (use it instead of fabric softener):

Ammonia in the wash (or rinse water) cuts odors AND grease or oil  (½ cup in small load)

wash it you can add baking soda or vinegar

hang it outside on a nice day with a breeze

If you have already washed it once and the scent still lingers, return it.

If the suggestions here don't work, wrap the hoodie in newspaper print.....store it within an unscented bag for a week or more.

I've been using newsprint on new clothing's strong odors, and it seems to have worked for me.

Otherwise, return the item.

So many perfumes and chemicals.....it's no wonder that many/most people take allergy pills now-a-days.  

We know people who take an allergy pill each and every day.

  ('Come to find out' that those people we know use heavily scented laundry detergents and fabric sheets.)

Oh, well......that's another subject.

Good luck removing the perfume odor.

Soak in baking soda, wash, put vinegar in rinse cycle.
