I went to put on a favorite pair of black/high heel OTK boots and the faux leatherb was peeling off all over my closet rug. Had it happen to a favorite jacket too. The weather hereb in SWA FL must be the problem. I'll get another pair ASAP maybe spend $$ for the real material ?? Probabl not as I search for replacements.

Not surprised.  I have had faux leather trim on two handbags fail, and have avoided it ever since.  I live in the Northeast, so weather is not the issue.

Faux leather needs to be stored in a closet with some kind of dehumidifier or desiccant like DampRid or dehumidifier bags made for closets. Humidity and heat are the worst for faux leather.

Faux leather (plastic) is not really made to withstand elements the way cared-for natural leather can do.

It might be good to temporarily ward off rain, but that is about it.

I had plastic boots I wore in very cold weather and they cracked all over.

Faux leather has a short lifespan--sometimes only a few years. The sun also damages the material.

When I buy a plastic purse I usually have to toss it after a year or two.

I try to never to spend too much on plastic items.

@StylishLady2

I once had a "similar" situation.    I was wearing Air Step® sandals, and got caught in the rain on my way to work.

I was sitting at my desk, and had a "funny feeling" like I was barefoot.

Looked down...and my sandals had completely disintegrated...there was a pile of wet CARDBOARD on the floor.      di

@Desertdi

Oh, how awful for you. Did you have another pair of shoes that you could change into?

Oh no! Sorry that happened to you but I think you are right that the weather is the culprit.  Faux leather can deteriorate and that's why I buy the real thing and for the breathability.  I just sweat in faux leather.  But, I am sure you will find an alternative as stylish as you are!
