Re: do you buy athletic shoes a size larger?

If I'm going to wear anything heavier than a trouser sock with the shoes, I'll go up half a size.  I buy them "in person" and bring the socks with me when I go shopping to make sure of the fit.

(I normally wear trousuer socks or knee-high stockings.)

I go up a size because my feet swell and I wear socks.

I don't run anymore, but when I did I bought my correct size. Now I walk 5 miles a day, but I still wear running shoes because they have extra support under the ball of the foot.  I wear my normal size for walking, too.

If there's any wiggle room, you can get blisters. I'm sure some people might be more comfortable in a bigger size. The socks you wear make a difference, too.

Yes I always buy my running shoes 1 size larger to allow room for socks and so my feet are not cramped.

I used to until I had two athletic shoe fit specialists (Big River Running and Eddie Bauer) tell me that all shoes, including running shoes should fit like a second pair of socks.

I don't run - but my regular shoes, ie, Clarks, are size 6-1/2 wide. I bought 7 pairs of Ryka sneakers (from Zappos) - and they're 7 wide. I wear the same socks for each. Going up one size is too much - maybe 1/2 size. Each brand runs differently so it's best to try on - or have free return.

No, but sizing runs differently for many brands. Asics tends to run half a size small. Nike tends to run a half size large. I just buy the size that fits with the socks that a normally wear for training.

I don't size up for tennis shoes.
