No. I’m rather frugal, and I saved for years preparing for a “comfortable” retirement.

My “style” doesn’t change and there is no need for me to look chic, current, fresh, cool girl or “like money.” I don’t have to buy new clothes every season.

@patbz I am not worried Social Security is not a gift you worked many years to accumulate what you get. It is not in jeopardy and can not be taken away. I worked 40 years and my husband and I are now enjoying the benefits of Social Security, his Thrift Savings Plan and his pension, not to mention Medicare and a great secondary insurance

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

@I am still oxox : DH and I are both retired Federal employees, so our profiles match yours. Always dismissed that there could be any real issues with SS but I'm worried.

My buying habits have changed alot in the past few years--I don't buy much anymore--mostly because I can find the same types of things elsewhere for free shipping and returns, faster shipping and also--I just plain don't need much. And the state of the world these days--has me worried about being able just to afford the basic needs.

I doubt your worry is anything new for the general public....one never knows when there will be a life changing event.

Even tho we have a great financial advisor, no debt and are healthy, with a decent nest egg....my husband is sure we will be eating dog food when we retire...I find it really irritating but also under stand the concern.

We have never lived above our means and doubt we would make any unnecessary purcahse when we retire.

@PinkyPetunia Many b&m stores no longer have "dressing rooms".
