I have indentations on both of my shoulders from years of wearing bras.  The straps would dig in but never really bothered me.  Until now.  My DD is getting married the end of May and I ordered a dress that is off the shoulder.

My dress will be coming in next month and they will need to alter it a lot.  They will have to hem it and with the left over material I plan on having them make removable straps to cover the dents.

I would however love to wear it without the straps if I could figure out how to get rid of what appears to be permanent dents.  I just ordered a strapless bra to wear to give my shoulders a rest...we'll see how that works out.

Has anyone else have or had this problem?  What did you do about it?

Re: bra strap shoulder dents

Two friends of mine had breast reduction procedure.  Both were very happy & comfortable.

I know it's not for everyone.

Re: bra strap shoulder dents

OP, I don't know you nor do I know what size you are. I'm just saysing how I got rid of those shoulder dents. I noticed those dents for years from my bra straps. I don't even have large or heavy breasts! I'm barely an A. But I recently lost quite a bit of weight (70 lbs) and have lost the bra straps dents. Yay!

Re: bra strap shoulder dents

You have shoulder dents because your bra doesn't fit.

The bra should support you, but not by the straps.  You're not wearing the correct type of  bra and/or the correct size.  Even with the straps down,  you should be supported by a correctly fitting bra.

The  dents will go away in time, as long as you don't have those straps holding you up. I used to have a the same problem.

Check to see if any stores in your area have a bra fitter.  If not, have someone measure you for size and go shopping. You can look up how to fit a bra on the internet.  Try on as many as available until to find a comfortable bra that lifts and supports even with the straps off of your shoulders.

Congratulations to your daughter on her upcoming wedding.

Re: bra strap shoulder dents

A bra is not fitted properly causes the dents in the shoulders.  You may need to change your band size or the bra is worn out.

Maybe before the wedding, (like waaay before) be professionally fitted for a bra.

Re: bra strap shoulder dents

I slightly have this problem.  If I wanted to wear a bare shoulder dress, I would get a bra fitting as suggested.  I also would start using a retinol or collagen face cream on the shoulder to try to sculpt the area a bit.

Finally a lovely sheer shawl on the special day.  Congrats to your family.

@ID2 How wonderful!

I have been watching my diet and have lost 15lbs since November.  I hope to lose another 15 by the end of May....hope this helps with my problem.

Re: bra strap shoulder dents

@Carmie Thanks so much!  We are very excited!

Good tips.  I thought my bras fit well since they never bothered me but I have read that the bra should support you not the straps.

Hopefully my strapless bra when it comes will help until I can find a good brand and the correct size.

ITA w/ everything @Carmie wrote. I have a very full bosom and fit is everything w/ a bra. My bra does not dig into my shoulders at all. If you have time, try to find a bra that fits you/supports you w/o relying on the straps. Also, jmo, but even if you need to have seamstress add straps to your dress, you will look and feel beautiful for your daughter's wedding. Enjoy yourself and the day, it goes by in a flash.

Re: bra strap shoulder dents

I've got them, too. I'm a petite woman with a small band size 32  but my cup size is DD. Most of my life I've been athletic so having a tight bra has been what I needed and still do. These days I never wear anything strapless or even a halter-style. I don't like the the look of the dents but there's nothing I can do to make them go away.
