I love dresses of all lengths, although I have more or less given up on mini-dresses, because I think they are youthful and fun, and I like looking more refined these days.
A maxi dress should NOT make you trip--it should come down to only about your ankles, so you can wear it with flats or heels.
They are a very nice comfortable choice for Summer days to protect from bugs, sunburns, as a swimsuit coverup, etc.
I have many formal long gowns that I use for cruises or New Year's, and some of them really require high heels unless I get them altered. Some can also be a bit uncomfortable, since they are meant to be worn for just a limited time.
A maxi dress should be as comfortable as shorts and a tee short, but a lot more elegant and pretty. Anyone can wear them anywhere--just have a positive mindset.
(I have worn a maxi dress to a rock concert!)

I bet it's lovely! Where it when and where you want to.

I think it's good to occasionally get out of our comfort zone and go with something new & different for us but still something that you can realistically see yourself wearing.
Most of the time I try to fill in what I think I either need or could really use.
How does the dress make you feel? I know a lot of women like wearing dresses in the summer and will wear them almost anywhere.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this! I have been "guilty" - maybe I shouldn't use that word - of looking at lovely things in stores and imagining where I would wear a particular item "if" - but usually there would be no place I would have to wear said item. I have in reality purchased one of these items (or more) and they look really pretty hanging on the back of my closet door! LOL!

What am I not appreciating here?
Maybe you are being overly critical of yourself in it?? I know I am guilty of this myself. Try it on again when you are feeling more cheerful and have on nice shoes and your hair nicely done and see if this makes a difference. Maybe since you are not used to this type of garment, it just kind of shocks you! A change sometimes is good.

I think I understand. I don't have a maxi dress. But. Had a couple Susan Graver maxi skirts some years ago but gave them to a friend. I found that even the petite lengths were a bit too long for me and the flat sandals/shoes I wear. Now, and for the past couple years, all the wide leg jeans out there, in all kinds of lengths - and I'm a jeans addict - they're so in style, and I think I should take the plunge, but haven't. I'm petite with somewhat short legs and thighs for days lol. So I tell myself to skip them because I think they'd look awful. But then why do I keep looking at them, seeing them on all different body shapes and sizes? We should wear what we want, is maybe the answer! No apologies! I continue to wear skinny jeans even though I'm not skinny and never have been! And they're not the current jeans trend. I don't care.
