Re: YOUR MOST NOT WANTED GIFT

Hmmm. Let's see. Well I guess I would not care to receive a book unless I had specifically asked for a particular one. I am choosy about my reading material.

Wow. I'm certainly not uppity when it comes to receiving gifts. I love anything someone takes the time to pick out for me. I am ever so grateful that they even thought of me. Heart

@ID2 - I agree with you and some of the others here. It's sometimes hard to find the perfect gift for people. I know I've received "recycled gifts" - an ornament dated 4 years earlier - but I am grateful she thought of me!

You know the old custom - getting the dreaded vase, bowl, knickknack, etc. that your mother-in-law gave you out before she comes over to visit! This never happened to me, but I'll bet it happened to some others!  Smiley Wink

Yep, I lived this for years.  My father in law's second wife made and gave to us a great big sequinned calendar every year for MANY YEARS. They were gaudy and awful.  But I had to keep it handy in the kitchen pantry so I could whip it out and hang it in plain site when they came over.  We lived in the same town, so this wasn't just a once-a-year thing.  Drove me crazy.

Re: YOUR MOST NOT WANTED GIFT

I think I would appreciate any gift received.  It's the thought that counts.  Can't think of anything right off hand that was not wanted.

I would be happy that someone thought enough of me to give me something.  While it's possible something might not be to my taste or something I'd want, I'd just be gracious and say thank you.

Re: YOUR MOST NOT WANTED GIFT

@Carmie,

That is so funny about the slippers!

I do like presents to receive and give.

I don't like all presents or those that people get just because they think they should give a present and it really is not something that you would want or need which means the present was just gotten to get something, and not something specifically for you.

I feel the same about giving presents. I like to give something that I feel is made just for that person I am thinking of, or something they really want or need that they would love.

Sometimes it is really hard to think of what to give someone, including me, when I don't want anything at the time.

In that case, I think I would rather say lets skip presents and just get together and spend time with each other, order something we love and watch a good movie and talk the night away.

That way none of us has to rack our brains trying to come up with something and none of us has to go to the goodwill thinking "what were you thinking?!😄

Re: YOUR MOST NOT WANTED GIFT

[ Edited ]

So.. I was a long time member of a Sweet Adelines chorus. At our annual Christmas party, most of us exchanged gifts. My friend Jen was one of the few if not the only person to spend extra time outside of chorus functions with Sharon (high functioning Asperger's, zero social skills, OCD, took everything literally, rigid about rules etc ) Anyhow, Jen had always liked little goat toys and figurines. Had a few. Sharon knew this. At our party where we were giving each other blingy accessories, holiday ornaments etc., Sharon presented Jen with a living room wall sized blown up photo of herself (Sharon) standing in a barnyard next to a goat. It was already framed and ready for hanging. When I saw it I nearly fell over. Jen was so gracious, many thanks, how very thoughtful. Problem was that she had often invited Sharon to her home. Sharon said she couldn't wait to see the photo in the living room. It was SO BIG. HUGE.

Jen's plan was to keep it hidden but accessible if the need to suddenly hang it arose.
Bless Sharon- she did have a warm heart and a generous spirit.
