Re: Would it Kill The Q To Use a Manikin for Something??

I have no trouble at all estimating how a necklace would fall on ME, not a manakin.

Let me tell you a little story about my visit to the Q. I went their with some friends for a Judith Ripka Live Show. We got there the day before and had a guided tour of the Q, backstage, the warehouse, the studio---the whole 9 yards. It was a lot of fun---we met Josie Maron in the Green Room---a real cutie, and so sweet. We met some of the hosts and saw Albany shooting a commercial.

We toured the control room where there was a young guy in jeans and a plaid shirt---and "one" of his jobs was to take photos of the merchandise and load them into the system. He was not by any means a professional photographer, and this was NOT his primary job. We girls looked at each other and thought, OK, now we know why the quality is so poor. So you can see how little the Q values these photos. There is no one dedicated to taking these photos---heck, I've even seen Ripka pieces that were photographed and uploaded UPSIDE DOWN!

When we went to the cafeteria for lunch one of the Marketing Execs joined us and we very nicely gave him an earful about the poor quality of the photos. He seemed to be taking our comments very seriously---but, alas, nothing has ever improved. I even told him that they needed to take a page from the HSN play book when it comes to photos---apparently to no avail.

On a lighter note, Rick Dohmeir (sp?) joined us for lunch, too, and he was just a doll---so funny, so self-effacing, so normal and nice. He took our names and said he'd give us a shout out on his Ripka Show that weekend and by god, he did!

They need a professional photographer to take the photos---bottom line.

QVC has full photography studios. They do indeed have a staff of professional photographers to shoot the merchandise. They shoot the Vela, promo, and commercials. In order to see the actual studio, you would have to go through security and to have been wanded going in an out of there. It is off limits to most employees, much less guests.

We weren't wandering anywhere---we paid for a "behind the scenes" tour and we were fully escorted the entire time and did indeed go through security and with metal detection and bag search. We did stand off camera while a commercial was being filmed and we stood off camera and watched a Live show from the wings. I stand by what I saw, what I was told and what I relayed here.

Here's the description of the tour which costs $75 per person (at the end of the tour they give you a shopping bag filled with Q items that is worth way more than the $75 charge):

Join us for a one of a kind look into the world of QVC! You will start your day on our QVC Studio Tour to learn about the fantastic world of electronic retailing. At this state-of-the-art broadcasting facility, guests will see and experience how QVC products are sourced, tested, brought to life on air, and delivered to millions of QVC customers.

Next you will go beyond behind the scenes at QVC to see areas such as Broadcasting Design; Lighting; the Shop (where many of the QVC sets are created); the Studio Operations Desk; a Green Room; and much, much more!

After seeing where the television magic happens, you will get a chance to learn about the corporate world of QVC.

Lunch is included! You will finish your tour in our Studio Park Commissary where you will be able to choose from our daily menu.

After your meal you will be taken back to the QVC Studio Tour Lobby where you can catch up on any last minute shopping in our Studio Store which features much of your favorite on-air merchandise. Included in the ever-changing selection of products is an extensive collection of jewelry, gourmet items, and authentic QVC Studio Park logo gear.

Reservations are required and space is limited. To make a reservation please visit Tix.com.

Restrictions:
Persons under 18 years of age are not eligible for this tour. The All Access Tour requires guests to walk and stand for extended periods of time and to walk up and down stairs. Guests with restrictions should email StudioPark@QVC.com in advance to make arrangements to accommodate their needs.

All guests are required to bring identification. Guests must go through a security search before gaining access to the studio, including a metal detector and bag search.

I agree with the OP. I have posted this previously several times! How can you order on line when you're looking at some numbers?

I want to see how they sit on an ear. I have no problem with looking at a fake (I mean faux) ear!

I agree. Great story Sheesh! I think it is pretty obvious from the photos (ALL QVC photos) that the "photographers" are terrible. QVC really has a lot to learn from other online retailers.

Re: Would it Kill The Q To Use a Manikin for Something??

I wish the Q would do the same for handbags. If I can't have a live body, can I get a dummy? It's hard to judge the size of a crossbody bag especially without seeing it on a human form.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Lol, you misunderstood me. I said wanded. As in they use a security wand as you enter an exit the photography studios. You have to pass through at least one metal detector. You cannot carry your personal possessions inside excerpt in a small clear bag.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I was really referring to the comment about the photographer you met. Nothing more.

It's both spellings! Wiki: A mannequin (also called a manikin, dummy, lay figure or dress form) {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}
