My "dressy" winter coats all have buttons or "fur hooks."  

 

I shop at Burlington for dressy coats.  All others are from LandsEnd .... my casual, everyday coats.

@kaydee50 : The puffer coats l have are The North Face brand. They’re very warm— much warmer than wool, IMO— and they have a zipper and also snaps. I agree that the zippers are a PITA, so l just use the snaps. I don’t know of any puffer coats that have buttons, though.

 

Here’s an example:
