William And Kate Visit Pakistan This Week

They are there Monday through Friday on an official visit, the first since Charles and Camilla visited in 2006. The Queen visited Pakistan in 1961 and 1997, and Princess Diana visited in 1991 on a solo trip.

Around 1.5 million people of Pakistani heritage live in the UK, and the countries enjoy historical links.

I'm sure it will be a trip full of culture and interesting engagements for William and Kate. I also look forward to Kate's fashion.

The Queen wore this to a luncheon-must have been some luncheon! She looked beautiful.

Diana visited Pakistan a few times after she and Charles split. She helped raise money for a cancer hospital that Prime Minister Imran Khan was building. He and his ex wife Jemima were friends of Diana. It's believed that William will honor her charity work while in Pakistan.

[ Edited ]

Diana's interest in Pakistan may have been amplified by her interest in a British-Pakistani gentleman friend, the surgeon with whom she had wished to make a life post Charles, in Pakistan, but it was not to be.  There was a film made that focused somewhat on her romantic interests in the surgeon and his homeland of Pakistan.  My understanding is that theirs was a beautiful love story that ended not long before her life was ended.

Kate is expected to wear the traditional shalwar kameez, just as Diana did. Worn by women, and sometimes by men, in South and Central Asia.

Just so beautiful

Will & Kate's Royal Trip To Pakistan: A Major Security Challenge

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will embark on a royal trip to Pakistan, where the security measures for their protection have been heightened beyond any ever taken before.

“The most complex tour undertaken by The Duke and Duchess to date, given the logistical and security considerations,” according to Kensington Palace, will include a deployment of more than 1,000 police in Pakistan.

The goal, The Telegraph reported, is “to secure the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as Pakistan hopes the visit can repair the country's image.”

Pakistan has high hopes that their visit will help to dispel its image as “a terrorist haven blighted by violence.”

“Whilst The Duke and Duchess’s programme will pay respects to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan,” the official statement explains, “it will largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today – a dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation.”

Although details of the five-day trip have been safeguarded, it’s been confirmed that they will travel across the country in what Kensington Palace describes as their most complex voyage ever undertaken. Pakistani officials have said their itinerary will be tightly guarded by the military, with local media being informed of details at the last minute.

The official statement says that the popular royal couple’s trip “will range from the modern, leafy capital of Islamabad to the vibrant city of Lahore, the mountainous countryside in the North, and the rugged border regions to the West.”

In all, they’ll cover 1,000 kilometers across the troubled country.

Their visit to the Commonwealth's second-most-populous country was announced in June and planned at the request of Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. It will be the first trip to Pakistan by members of the royal family since Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, travelled there in 2006.
