@Belle_Femme @jlkz  @Icegoddess

I just googled tall wide calf boots and found many choices, including reputable sites like DSW, Nordstrom.

@NYCLatinaMe Sometimes the devil is in the details.  You do have to read closely to see what any particular brand's definition of wide calf is,  There's also that issue of the vase shape wide calf boots often have.

For example, there's a Vince Camuto Wide calf boot here and the opening is over 16".  However, the picture they give on the item page is actually the picture for the regular boot, and the presentation is the same presentation which I understand.  However, I didn't watch the entire presentation, but it seems like they just give lip service to the fact that it's available in a wide calf, but don't pick up a wide calf boot to show you how different it is.  There appears to be 2 pair of the wide calf boots sitting on the table and they are vase shaped.  A riding boot should not be vase shaped IMO.

The isaac Mizrahi wide calf boot offering only has a 15.12" opening.  So, not all wide calves are created equal.

I no longer go into DSW as very limited in size 11.

Nordstrom...too pricey and at 80 I no longer need high top boots, thank goodness !

Now, don't laugh.   but if the with size is close, try this.  Lay on the bed, stick your leg straight up and then zip the boot up.  It worked for me.

This is true @Icegoddess with regards to wide calves, I look at the calf measurement, I don't go by the displayed boot, since they don't bring out all the sizes, and there is no way to know who has a wide calf, or how wide is it.  I do look at how the shoes fit whoever is modeling them, whether the sides of the foot are wider than the shoe soles or whatever.  I am picky about fit,  The Vince Camuto Vianah4 that I posted about above is actually being offered in 3 different calf sizes.  They give the numbers.  They said if one is in between, to go up.  I did that, ordered the widest, and it is very nice,  It can probably go above pants, but I usually wear tall boots with dresses, unless they are rain boots!  I have worn the Clarks ones that I also posted above with jeans, and they fit even though my calf is wider than the boots' circumference listed because of the stretch panel.  All boots with stretch panels I have purchased have always fit me, even when the boot calf measurement shown is a little smaller than my own.  I do have some all leather tall boots that I bought from Amazon, probably Zappos, David Tate.  I actually meant to return them because I didn't like them on me that much, but missed the return deadline, and forgot about them until the new Vince Camuto ones arrived.  The David Tate are OK, calves bigger than needed, I just haven't worn them out yet.

Shopping Amazon, even if the manufacturer does not give the calf measurement, reviewers share theirs, so that helps.  I search the reviews for that info

Oh @aoldgirl I have done this in the past.  Tights help, and push that calf in.  Thankfully, haven't have to do that in a while.

Used to lay down in the bed to zip my tight jeans when I was in my teens and college!  No spandex then.

@jlkz  I have always loved tall boots.  Happy I can find ones to accommodate my calves.  I feel taller, all 5'+ something of me.  Never thought of an age limit for tall boots.

Years ago I always had a hard time finding tall boots to fit my calves. I lost 70 lbs. and now I can wear any boots out there.

Age can impact a lot of things, e.g. not able to bend to do pedicures by oneself, putting on / taking off certain types of shoes even sitting down, etc.
