are they plastic or silicone? Clear means invisible which means you can wear them with backless or strapless without going bra-less.

I thought the same about the clear purses--"boy, that's dumb" I would think.  Now, with a trip to Pearl Harbor coming up, that you're not allowed any purses that conceal, but only the clear ones--for security reasons. I understand that they are good for anti-theft checks, (you see store employees carrying them), and security checks.  They are now called "stadium bags".  I guess sports stadiums accept that they can be seen through and don't have to go in and search every nook and cranny and slow down the entering process.
