I'm on Facebook but I never go to any of the hosts pages. As a matter of fact, I never go to any "celebrities" Facebook pages at all. I'm not interested. They're not my personal friends.

Since I have a good idea what is worth caring, or not caring, about as I go through my day -- and since I 'have my own mind,' nothing hosts post on their Facebook pages bothers me to the point of kvetching.

Common sense tells me that QVC (and other network's) hosts are compelled contractually to participate in Facebook. It's a silly marketing ploy to make some customers feel like they are close personal friends to the hosts. Apparently the powers that be have some kind of data along the lines of bumped up sales and viewership related to this form of connecting to customers. I don't participate and it does not annoy me when social media is being thrust upon us. In my world it's not a big deal that I don't get a look at an upcoming TSV a week ahead of its air date.
A woman in MaryBeth's position has probably already selected the outfits which she will wear to her son's wedding and other related wedding events. I would venture to speculate that she hired a professional stylist like Joe Zee or Lori Goldstein (I'd better duck, the Logo critics are throwing things
) to assist.

I think they may be calling it a grooms dinner, but it is probably the after wedding rehearsal dinner that the grooms parents usually pay for, I too have never heard it described that way.

The brass at QVC probably encourages these interactions. The final decision is up to her.

What if she comes across a dress that she absolutely falls in love with and its not one of the 4? Will she not post photos of herself at her son's wedding?
I don't think she's really counting ""votes."" My take was that she simply asked for opinions in order to help her decide between the four to which she has narrowed it down.

Not having read all the replies I'll just respond anyway... Has nothing to do with them wanting our opinion and everything to do with QVC management wanting us to bond with the hosts, assuming we'll then be more inclined to think positively of them and hence of QVC. Personally, I think they need to rely more on better programming, more of a mix of products, less repetition, less frenzy, and more customer incentives and less on all these ridiculous polls and host 'friending'. With all due respect to Mary Beth (or whoever else might ostensibly need help getting dressed for a wedding), I don't care what she wears... And really, at the end of the day, she doesn't care what I think.
