Re: When de-cluttering clothes

Spark joy? I don't have a cluttered closet full of old stuff I haven't worn in years. I like to look current and modern, so I clear out the old twice a year. If something doesn't fit, it goes. I've never hung onto something for "when I lose weight". If I haven't worn something in 2 years, it goes. I just gave away a trench coat to a friend because I have two that I love and I know I'll never wear a 3rd one. I've learned to get rid of my fashion "mistakes". Those items that just aren't me. The ones I never wear because I just don't like them.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I ask myself:

Is it something that  is plausible  I will fit in again?

when was the last time I wore it?

Do I like it anymore?

AND. .... " What WAS I thinking when I bought it!👎😄

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

 I currently have little to no emotional ties to my clothes, shoes or accessories.  I maintain a small wardrobe that I cull VERY frequently.

I am fickle and I suspect many of you are too.  For instance, if I purchase a new pair of jeans that fit like a glove and fast-tracked to being my favorite,  I know I will reach for them over all the other jeans in my wardrobe. So I refuse to clutter my life with those items that have garnered favor like the ugly step-sister.

I also refuse to feel guilty about money ill-spent on mistakes and feel good that I will share those items with my favorite charitable organizations.  On the other hand, I do feel joy when I can go into my closet knowing that I truly like and wear everything on display.

Full disclosure:  I am a serial shopper.  Clearing out the old gives me "permission" to purchase more.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I'm bad, as I am a keeper or as I prefer, a historian.  If I say, does this make me look fat, the answer is going to be yes because I am fat.

My problem is organization.  I have tons of black pants, tops, sweaters, cardis, dresses.  I think you get the picture.  The problem is that I'm tall, so if something fits I want to keep it whether I have worn it in a year or not.  I do have my favorites one year and then change to another. I need a 24 step program.  LOL

@luvzchiz

I prefer "historian," too LOL...better than some of the other descriptions I can think of.   I beginning my own "24 step program"...purging, trying on every single darned thing in my closet, and organizing.   I'm determined to get a handle on my clothes, my clothing choices, my clothing budget, and my closet!  Thanks for the chuckle!  And welcome to the boards.

@MacDUFF

Thanks for the welcome.  I've been following (lurking) the boards for a while.  I don't usually post because I've seen some discussions take a turn for the worse and I "got no time for that"Smiley Happy

I do like your posting of Outfit of the Day.

I'm a big apple at 5'10" with very long thin legs and average arms.  Thus, I need longer inseams, but longsleeved tops are usually adequate.  I do look for reviews that state that an item is too long.  Then I know it might be good for me.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

Sometimes I just get tired of wearing certain pieces -- not that they're my absolute favorite or something I always reach for.... just a shirt, jacket, what-have-you that I'm sick and tired of wearing or seeing in my closet.  Of course, clothes that have faded or ripped or lost more buttons than I want to replace.   Sometimes I even toss clothes in the trash, but I also keep a donation pile in my closet - once that pile gets a certain height, out it goes!

What?  Discussions here "take a turn for the worse?"  LOL...don't I know it...even tho it can happen lightening fast, it's like watching a train wreck in slo-mo.   Sometimes, I'll visualize myself putting on my flame retardant suit before signing on!  Smiley Tongue

Don't even talk to me right now about inseams...I'm sick of dealing with inseams...and I'm a few inches shorter than you.
