Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I find getting rid of a few pieces at a time does not overwhelm me.

Next on my list is sleeveless tops and tanks.  I pick a category and do it one section at a time.  It's too overwhelming to think of going through everything.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I don't really think much about it .... I keep a bag in the bottom of the closet for recycle/donattion.

If something doesn't look "just right" or is "uncomfortable" ... it goes in the bag.  I recently put in four pairs of chinos (uncomfortable), polo shirts that have seen better days, and some sweaters that I no longer like the colors.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I declutter pre summer and pre winter. Give to a charity that will pick up at your house. I don't have a walk in closet and my closet space is old and small now. I have more than enough casual clothes, right now I'm just adding some dresses.

I try to part with it if I think it's tired, doesn't fit me well enough. I'm bad at parting with clothing. I have an addiction to tops, that's easiest for me to get a decent fit and I fall for pretty ones.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I will put it on and look in the mirror...ask myself, "Does this make me look fat?"  Smiley Happy

"Is it comfortable?"

"Does it look nice on me?"

If I answer yes to #1, out it goes!  If I answer yes to #2 an #3 I keep it.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

Sometimes I ask myself "Would you buy this at the thrift shop if it were there tomorrow?"

Does it work to clear out my closet?  Not always, but often enough to help with the constant need to cull.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

1. Does it fit?

2. Does it stilll look nice or is it getting raggedy?Faded?Stained?

3. Does it suit me well - ie:do I look good in it?

4. Is it still fashionable enough to wear?

5. Is it comfortable to wear?

6. Do I have co ordinating pieces that go with it? If not - do I love it enough to buy them?

7. Do I have anywhere to wear it?For instance the last time I wore a cocktail dress was before DH retired 8 years ago.I now only have one dress I would put in that category - just in case something comes up.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I'm in the upper percentile of those who keep clothes. I guess it stems from my younger working girl years when I had little to wear. I love having many options. Some things I haven't worn in a couple years, but I just might want them next Sunday. Just  my way. People do what works for them.

Re: When de-cluttering clothes

I  feel guilty.  I buy clothes on sale, put them away and then eventually I wear them.  But I honestly have more than I need.  Don't know what to do.

What types of questions do you find helpful to ask yourself?  (Outside of does it fit? And, do you use it?)

I have heard of things like 'spark joy' or love.  I'm just curious if you have any buzzwords that help you in deciding to keep things or not.  I tend to over keep things.

Thanks!

It gets gone when I get tired of pushing it around the closet!

I don't have enough clothes to worry about it most of the time.

But if I haven't worn it in months, and I'm tired of pushing it around, out it goes.
