This morning my DIL and her 2 friends stopped in to say hello. One of the girls was wearing a really cute dress. I was shocked when she walked outside on to my deck and I could see "straight through her,"

I asked her if she knew her dress was very sheer. She replied she did, so she remembered to wear Skimmies. I have seen Skimmies on QVC and I am sure they are great if your skirt blows up in the wind, but IMO they to not take the place of a slip.

I am not fond of seeing anyone's body clearly when a sheer skirt is worn. I can even tell some women are wearing thong panties right through sheer material. I know it's difficult to find a slip for purchase, except for shaper slips and they would be very hot in the summertime.

I would not purchase a sheer dress that wasn't lined. Is this a new trend? Maybe I am an old fuddy duddy, but scheech, this look is a bit inappropriate in my opinion.

I wear a slip but my adult daughters wear skimmies. They do not care that you can see through their skirts. They only want coverage in the wind. Back in the day my mother drilled in my head that you should never see the inner leg outline in the light.

Times have changed. Modesty is a thing of the past. The only time my belly button saw the light of day was at the beach. Today is one of our first warm days and I saw a sea of belly buttons at the mall earlier this morning.

I still wear a slip under sheer skirts and dresses. Jockey Skimmies do not offer any coverage between the legs. I do not want anyone seeing between my legs all the way up to you know where. Btw I am in my early 50s.

skimmies do nothing. If a maxi dress is sheer I dont buy!

I am not sure where women got the idea that wearing underwear is all that is necessary under sheer dresses. A slip is needed.

I have a rayon lounge dress that I'm pretty sure would show everything in the sun. It is nice & cool in the house but I won't even wear it outside to empty the trash even though I wear a sports bra & underwear with it.

Skimmies remind me of the underware my grandmother wore back in the 1970's....she was in her 80's at the time. She wore mostly pink ones with long legs. Today they are sold as no chafe panties to women with thicker thighs that rub together when they walk.

It's amazing how fashion comes and goes. Items that were dated 50 years ago are back in style.

Perhaps the youngsters will adopt slips again.

I have a sheer dress, but it came with a separate sort of "slip" that's not attached and can be worn with other things. Both are very lightweight, so there's no excuse that they're too "hot" in summer.
