Re: What's your winter coat like?

I have an oversized faux fur trimmed parka that I got from the Gap a few years ago.  I also have a mid length coat in grey. This winter I got two new long cloth coats from Old Navy that were only 40.00 each.  One is black and one is a heather brown.

Re: What's your winter coat like?

I live in SoCal but I have a thing for coats. This is the latest rotation:

  • Black Puffer Coat from the Jill Sander Uniquo collaboration
  • Black satin lightly lined (quilted) bomber jacket
  • Faux varsity jacket (borrowed from the boy's style)
  • Thick, lined denim Motorcycle jacket
  • Bright, bright pink velvet 3/4 coat (cut like something a Victorian gentleman would wear)

I have many more in storage. An embarrassing amount....actually.

Re: What's your winter coat like?

I have so many winter coats and jackets.

Long Sporto puffer coat and a Giuliana short puffer coat that is black with a white zipper. They are very warm.

Several short lightweight Lands Ends puffer coats that are really cute. Love the black/silver polka dot one that I always get compliments on. Couple of LE long puffer coats.

Lots of jean jackets, Susan Graver long cloth coats and some buffalo prints.

Love a good sale!

Re: What's your winter coat like?

I hate being cold!  I have a mid thigh black down puffer for when it's really cold, a more stylish black reversible coat (but I only wear it on the black side that has a gorgeous cream with purple lining and a black cloth coat for when I need to be a bit more dressed.

I love black!  It goes with everything and I have a large wardrobe of scarves to add a bit of color around my neck.  Plus it's also very slimming!

Our average temperature is 50 degrees with cold mornings.

I have an all weather coat with a hood, two walking length wool coats, and a black faux fur from Donna Saylers Faux Furs.  Hers are like Basso on steroids.  She's having a sale now.

Re: What's your winter coat like?

I have 2 parkas from Land's End. One is short/waist(ish) length without a hood. The other covers my back side and has an attached hood. Both are down filled.

I also have an ancient Columbia fleece jacket that I wear 90% of the time. WIth a hoodie or sweater under it, it's plenty warm enough.

Even though I live in Michigan, I absolutely hate wearing a coat. Today was in the mid 30's and I just wore a hoodie and was quite comfortable.

I own and wear often

  • mid calf 100% wool black coat
  • 3/4 length 100% wool navy coat
  • 4 Lands End waist length packable jackets in fushia, tan, navy print, black print
  • 1 down filled Lands End mid calf coat...bulky and warm in olive green...I hate the color, but the coat is super warm and was on sale
  • Mid calf 100% wool sapphire blue coat
  • LL Bean hip length parka in blue shades
  • Lands End hip length parka in a plum color

I have other coats and jackets that I occasionally wear.

I consider outerwear to be investment pieces and buy the best I can afford

I wear my packable jackets the most often.

I love 100% wool coats.  They are so warm and last for years.  They are getting difficult to find.  Most have poly mixed it.  I pass up the wool-poly blends.

Re: What's your winter coat like?

I need a new coat, so I ordered a Basso coat.  Big mistake. It was terrible.  I returned.  Frustrated, I ordered that reversal coat from Susan Graver. That one been around for a couple of years, but I never got. Wow....nice coat.  That was a surprise.  So I ended up with a coat. So glad I got it. Doesn't pill.  I got the black/grey one.  Very warm and wonders of all, the hood actually fits!  I have a small head and most of Dennis's hoods hang over my eyes by a mile. With Graver coat, I just have to roll it back once.  Not the best coat, but compared to that Basso coat....the best.

I live in Manhattan and have a fairly active life ... so lots of coats/jackets .... for different temps, occasions.

I have a four DB faux fur jackets, one full length  DB coat, a LandsEnd Parka (for stormy weather) a black LandsEnd moderate temp coat, and several LandsEnd winter jackets for milder days.

Most of them are black or gray.  The full length faux is DB's "patchwork" faux fur from many years ago.  It still gets rave reviews whenever I wear it.
