Those candies were always called hard candy in my neck of the woods. don't know if others did this, but we melted them in tea instead of adding sugar and other taste enhancers.
The op image made me start singing the Dolly Parton Christmas song Hard Candy Christmas.

We just called it Christmas Candy because we only see it Christmastime. We hunt for the peanut butter or molasses filled ones and prayed you didn't get the clove flavored ones. I remember it came in a green canister. I also remember ribbon candy.

When we were children and Santa came to town to light the Christmas tree, we were given a box of this hard Christmas candy and an orange. The bank also gave out this candy when Santa visited.
Great memories.

I think they were called filled candies, because of their centers

Is it called "Gloria Mix" ??? I remember this hard candy being in a curved ribbon form in the mix as well. I think Brachs put it out yearly.

Those ones with the soft center were yucky, but as a kid I ate them anyway.
