As a 24 year long customer, you would think I would know this.  The measurements for all items I check are either the same or a 1/4" difference.  What am I missing here?  I go mainly on chest and length.

For each garment, always, always go to the Item description, the “click here” is in the body of the description. There is the actual measurements for each size for that one garment.

LOGO Is a classic example where a medium for one item can be a totally different measurement, than a medium in another garment, and both are logo.

There are times when I can wear a medium and there are times where I have to get an extra large.  I know my numbers and then I factor in whether the fabric is stretchy or not. This way you don’t have to worry about a size.

I know I cannot wear anything less than 42 inches for a bust measurement.  I also know I need tops that are at least 30 inches long. So it actually makes no difference what size the garment is.

I never have to return clothes anymore because of size, I measured tops that I knew fit me very well and kept that number. Same for pants I know my inseam. The measurements are all there in the “click here”.

XL can be a range of measurements, and so can 1X.

When you go to the “click here” you can compare the measurements of those two sizes.

I usually buy XL but honestly, there's no difference between the two sizes.  I think 1X is an inch larger in the waist and hips.  For me, not enough to make a difference.  There's a little psychological benefit in buying the XL's.  Silly, but there is.

XL's are cut for a women's body, and 1X is cut for a plus size. Large in the bust and hips and thighs

And to really confuse you, there is a difference between a Women's XL and a Misses XL.

When I worked at Liz Claiborne we had 3 size ranges. xsp to xlp.  xsp was a size 2  xlp was a 14.  The petites were shorter in the rise and sleeve lengths. Missy's were xs to xl the xs being 2-4 and the xl was a 14-16.  We had no missy's 18.  The missy's were cut with about a 30" pant length and the tops were about 25-26" long.  The plus sizes were 1x to 3x.  1x was a 14-16  2x was 18-20  3x was 22-24.  occasionally we got in plus petites.  The plus sizes were 2-3 inches larger in width and slightly longer than the missy sizes.  LC's petite sizes were truly scaled down for petites.  I've seen petite lengths on QVC that were 29-30" 

I know this has too much info but QVC's sizing is a little more generous.  But I've never been one of the lucky Q shoppers that had to go down 2 sizes.

@depglass  If you think that is confusing go to JJill because the XL is larger than the 1X (measurements).  Go figure.

I have had this dilemma only here at QVC as I wear an XL or L now here but in the past a 1x.  Sometimes the cut of the garment let me order down a size, and in pants I knew I always needed the roomier 1x.

The size charts are still truly a mystery to me.  Many times the specific measurements I need are bigger on the xl than the 1x and it is then I know I must forget numbers and just go with instinct and I am almost always right. 

If in doubt I ordered the xl and not 1x because it seems once you get into the plus "X" sizes they are simply roomier all over, something I want to avoid.

Now I've lost weight so I have to decide between L and XL and it's much easier, everything is very clear between those two sizes.

XL and 1X sizing is a huge muddled mystery.

And let's not even discuss jeans and their sizing....
