What you call them might depend on where you live in the country and what you socioeconomic status was. I grew up in the 50's and on the poor side of town, we called them sneakers and I still do.

Grew up calling them tennis shoes, but would now also call them sneakers.

I call them sneakers.

When my cousin in England called them "trainers," l didn't immediately know what he was talking about, lol.

They're sneakers to me. I've certainly heard them called tennis shoes but even when I played tennis for 30 years, they were still sneakers.

Growing up we all called them sneakers and I still do.

Here's another one - I never say cardigan.  They will always be sweaters to me.

I called them "sneakers" yesterday and my 12 year old students thought that was so funny. Some of them had never heard that word.  I guess I'm showing my age by calling them sneakers?

What would you call them?

I’ve called them so many things over the years that I’m not sure what I would call them on any given day. Sneakers, tennis shoes, trainers, gym shoes...

What do your 12 year old students call them?

Most of my cardigans are not sweaters.
