Remember when our moms/sisters used to spend hours trying to find fashion items to match? That was a big deal then. Anyway, I have a feeling that many still 'dress up' in the UK. All of those elaborate hats, etc.

Some folks had jeans on and some wore very appropriate clothing.
I don't think there is any way not to notice at least some of the outfits worn even if not specifically looking but - a statement like that is why I don't believe in the whole church going thing!! It should be the spirit in which one attends church that counts - not so called ""appropriate clothing""!!!! The fashion judgers certainly don't have the right attitude for going to church!!! You don't go to judge others but to spiritually improve your own self.
Another thing - I never heard the song that goes ""in your Easter bonnet"" '... sung in church. I don't think church is the place to go to just look at what everyone is wearing.

I was surprised that so many women and men wore dark colors, when I was growing up it was all about color my mother dressed me mostly in pastel colors.
I wore a cream color dress and LDO seafoam jacket. There were a handful of women with color on besides myself.

You are correct. Anyone remember "Easter Parade"? As a child (in the 60's), I remember getting a whole new ensemble every Easter: new dress, pretty spring coat, new hat, white shoes, little purse and white gloves. I also recall an Easter in April when we had a snowstorm and we couldn't wear any of our pretty Easter things!
To answer the original question (and you can't help but see what people are wearing), people don't seem to dress up as much for Easter as they used to, so it ran the gamut at our very large Catholic church. Some were casual (jeans--nice jeans), some men in suits and some women dressed up a bit more, some handsome boys in neckties and oxford shirts, and some lovely little girls in pretty, poofy, pastel dresses.

Jesus was wearing simple clothing. The Pharisees were dressed ornately to set draw attention to themselves.

oh come on. I was interested to see what everybody had to say - was worn.
You can worship and also notice what others wore.
One of the posters may not of noticed as she was there to worship..but she posted on another thread how she was late as she knew what she wanted to wear, but had to find it..then had stocking issues - so under that holier then thou attitude she too cared what she was wearing!
Lighten up ..it is all good..

I went to early Mass and most people were dressed nicely but not particularly spring like. It was too early for most of the kids to be out in their Easter finery. It was also chilly so I had a coat on and I wore a hat because I like hats.
I remember always having a new dress, hat and shoes for Easter.
I love the movie Easter Parade. I had fun watching it and enjoying all of the great dressed up clothes & of course, the dancing.

Our church had something different going on this morning. Our youth group sold T-shirts with the phrase "Forget the frock, Feed the flock" on them. So about half the congregation was dressed in those shirts with and assortment of jeans, capris, dress pants, and skirts. The rest of the group had on normal Easter clothes--I was sad to be one of the people who didn't get a T-shirt ordered in time and had to wear "real clothes"!
