Re: What did you see - fashion wise - in church this AM?

Our church is in Boston, Copley Square; steps from the Marathon finish line. The city is filled with runners, press, police, tourists. So, we attended the 8am service of a local church. Our first time there. We saw some Easter finery but not much. People dressed their kids up. That Easter parade look we grew up with is over, a thing of the past.

"I was there to worship the Lord, not observe what people were wearing."

I am sorry, but this holier than thou attitude is what drove me away from the church way back and I have not returned. I do, however, believe in God as much as anyone else does, (he knows), just don't feel the need to prove it to anyone else's satisfaction. I'll step back away from this conversation now. Happy Easter.

Someone wearing printed pants as they went up to Communion.

Some folks had jeans on and some wore very appropriate clothing.

Some of you gals need to put on your Easter bonnets. Don't you remember how fun it was in the Spring when you Mom got you a new Easter outfit, complete with little white gloves?

We always looked forward to a new outfit for Easter Sunday when I was growing up: a dress, white shoes, a hat (with an elastic chin strap that was always too tight), gloves, and if I was lucky, a little purse. My mother would also buy me a new spring coat around Easter (we called it an "all-weather coat") that I probably wore only once or twice before it was outgrown. This was also when women over a certain age did not go into a church without their head covered. (My mother had lacy veils in various colors for this purpose.) I miss the days when everyone showed respect (self-respect and respect for others) by the way they dressed, in all facets of life.

Today is Easter. Is there a way we can post on a thread without being snarky, etc. and rejoice in His resurrection?

Re: What did you see - fashion wise - in church this AM?

When we were kids we got new Easter outfits. However, as an adult I have not carried on this tradition. I did not notice what folks were wearing - probably because my DD was with me and we haven't spent time together in a while. We DID notice one of the girls on the worship team had printed striped pants. I commented to DD that this particular person has her own sense of style and fashion and wears things that I would never in a million years be attracted to but somehow she always makes it work and it looked good on her.

So true HisElk: Happy resurrection day to all who know in their hearts that He has indeed risen!

My mom had a very sophisticated sense of style. My sister and I always wore unique color combos (late 50s thru 60s).

We NEVER wore pink - my mom thought that was too predicable.

One year I had a bright yellow basketweave wool coat with gold buttons (Villager). She paired this with a navy blue dress. My dad got me a violet nosegay to carry.

Another year I had an olive green jumper with baby blue embroidery and a matching baby blue blouse.

My sister and I loved getting our Easter coats, hats and shoes. We loved going to Mass and carrying either a small bouquet or a corsage.
