If you're speaking of deep chocolate brown, the jewel tones go best.  Think true navy, emerald green, ruby red, deep purple.  White for extreme brightness or off white if you're extreamly fair.

If it's a reddish brown, use rust, mustard, gray /orange, and deep olive greens.

Olive green or turquoise are my first choices, but I think you can wear any primary color.  I wouldn't wear pastels with brown.

I wear brown a lot. Often it is less harsh than black.

Think of nature...

Most blues are great with browns

Lime green

coral and pink

Brown and white is striking. Especially for summer clothes.

Black and brown is sophisticated.  Think of animal print. Black and brown are staples in this color combination

If the brown is lighter and more of a neutral, navy and gray can look great.

White, black, camel, lighter browns, lilac especially looks good with brown, certain oranges and gold colors (these are all solid colors).  If you wear a pattern make sure there is brown in it.

I like a deep pink or rose with brown.  Also many different shades of blue - aqua, turquoise, etc.  There are always the fall color of green and rust.  I also love brown and white in the summer.
