@LTT1  I'm a natural redhead and fair skinned.

I think some skin is more translucent than others.  Since I was a kid, I could easily see the roadmap of veins in my arms and legs. 

I've known fair skinned women where all you see is their fair skin - like a china doll. 

From the time I was a kid, you could see a purplish tinge under my eyes.  Not darkening because I was tired or exhausted - just translucent skin.

Photographs tend to accentuate it.

Don't you think lighting has something to do with this too?

@LTT1  As long as she has a clean bill of health, my suggestion would be to not worry.  Lighting and camera flash can accentuate it.  Softer, warmer light doesn't show it as much.  Brighter and harsher light puts a focus on it.

It never hurts to have a child checked out at the Dr....for peace of mind, if for no other reason

I think she still looks bruised...does she look like this in person, or just in the picture?

i dont know the backstory to the bruise, but i do see the bruise or "knot" in both photos.....but moreso in the purple one.

I think the purple color looks better with her skin tone, but the blue shading is still there.

Welcome to my world @LTT1. Your granddaughter simply has translucent skin that is very fair. Everything shows through and I have seen many a color photo of myself from when I was in grammar school where I looked the same as your granddaughter.

Usually colors that are too intense bring out the blue veins underneath. Stick to soft pastels and it will seem to disappear.

BTW, your granddaughter is darling!!
