Re: What a way to ruin a look.

[ Edited ]

I would say anything to wear a top like that so as not to look so boring give a more modern look to it would be jeans and especially ripped and shreeded ones!!

I guess you  missed where I said "stylists in Europe  call them (tennis shoes) trainers".

Call them whatever you like.

Soften the edgy-look of distressed/ripped jeans by wearing them with an elegant top. That's a style thing these days.

Exactly. Sometimes it's about the juxtaposition.

I  can understand your feelings.

In the same idea, I am over some of the "high-low" mixes.  Some are plain unappealing to me to the max degree!

If anyone likes all of the high low mixing, enjoy.

@ECBG    I have to agree... I am so tired of the high low thing.  Maybe it is because I am on the petite side...Those styles look like maternity clothes on me.  🤦🏻‍♀️.  I tried it once, and knew I just could not carry it off.  I'll stick to the classics.

@Mombo1

Mine comes from the look of those black and white high (or low) top sneakers.  I hated them when I saw them as a child.  "Trainers" or tennis shoes as European stylists refer to them are like nails on a chalk board when I see them with a nice outfit.

There are many comfortable casual shoe lines like Earth.

@ECBG

Just a side note - all athletic shoes are called "tennis shoes" where I live.  Never called them anything else in my life, not sneakers or trainers or anything else.  I think that's one of those things they use in those quizzes that tell you what part of the country you live in based on the words you use.

@shoesnbagsI have always referred to them as tennis shoes or "tennies" as well. I'm in the upper mid-west.

@QVCkitty1 @I agree! I would need to see it and then decide. I have seen some women pull it off and make it work! I enjoy seeing what outfits people put together. To me that is what makes fashion fun!

@Franklinbell I think it sounds fun--lacy top and jeans.  Makes a difference what the wearer looks like and does she have the confidence to wear it and not let it wear her.

I think that is a critical element overlooked--do YOU like it?  Then wear it!  I think it takes attitude to go outside the rules, and the sense to not go too far to make it work.  I appreciate that.  Except when it involves too many body parts flapping in the wind.

I read it wrong I think.  Now I see that you were saying that stylists in Europe call tennis shoes "trainers."  I thought you were saying they called trainers tennis shoes. My brain is working better after a good night's sleep lol. 😉

I like the juxtaposition of styles. To each her own.
