yep. shirt waists as so many have stated. A classic revamped or worn classically over the centuries.

Somebody here mentioned Jane T.

She has always looked the very best wearing fit-and-flare dresses!

I believe ModCloth website still offers many fit-and-flare retro-style dresses.

I love that 'retro' look.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: What Would You Call These Dresses?

I think they are shirt waist dresses. They make look old fashioned now, but then it was more modern .  I imagine if you take same style change fabric, and put them the modern woman they look better,  women looked so much older in those days. Especially the 50's.  No flattering make up, hair style, just a Toni home perm every few months and steel rollers at night. Most women did not dye their hair when they got gray.  My grandmother died at age 60, and I look at photos of her and she looked 50 at 40 and really , really old at 60.  Hey 60 is young, but back them styles weren't always youthful for anyone over 40

Don't know why part of my reply got bleeped out,  maybe I spelled it wrong, maybe it's knip and tuck ?
