Re: What Would You Call These Dresses?

I would call them ..straight out of my Aunt Pearls closet. She wore them every day.

My Mom never wore them..she wore ankle length slacks (they always had a side zip and button) with a cute top or sweater...more like Audrey Hepburn. In the Summer she wore shift dresses and sandals or shorts and a  short sleeve cotton button down shirt. Occasionally a sleeveless top.

That picture is older than the 1960s!!!!!

This is the 60s.

Remember, they were 100% cotton and if you were lucky, you had an electric iron for them!!

Re: What Would You Call These Dresses?

I'd call them better than a lot of things I see being worn these days.

Put your claws back in kitty!!! I think shirtwaist is the name of dresses most women wore back then.

I love the photo because that's what lovely ladies wore in those days.

My mom called them shirt dress. 💕💕

@DREAMON  What you are describing for your mom's way of  dressing is 1960's. These dresses in the picture were most likely early 1950's or even late 1940's.  Styles change.

Re: What Would You Call These Dresses?

My mother didn't wear dresses. They moved to Arizona in the 50's and I don't remember ever seeing my mother in a dress until my dads funeral in 1967. She wore pants till the day she died.

I love them, also known as a day dress.
