Hello fashion friends.
Here's something that didn't quite work out...I hope you get a good chuckle out of it.
This thrifted 70% pashmina, 30% silk ruana was $2.50. I immediately fell in love with the colors and the beautiful design. It looks a little bohemian. It's so soft and very lightweight...figured it would be great for transition. The only problem is that I don't like ruanas. I know, I know, but I had one of my big fat ideas for tweaking it.
The sides were partially stitched down to create sleeves, but I thought that made it look like a cleric's robe...
Bishop MacDuff of Bohemia
Definitely not "me!"
Just as I was about to doze off for an afternoon nap (a time, by the way, when I come up with my best worst ideas hahaha), I thought, "Why not remove the stitches and wear it as a shawl!" I much prefer a shawl to a ruana, so it seemed like a great idea. "Yes!" I thought. "This fabric will make a gorgeous shawl...I'm a genius!" ![]()
Granted, I was not looking forward to pulling out more stitches...and this one was tightly stitched, wouldn't you know it. Ladies, I'm not exaggerating when I say it was a BEAR pulling stitches out of a lightweight pashmina/silk woven fabric. Literally, the hardest stitch pulling job of my entire fashionista life. I ended up with a few small holes due to the weave coming undone. But, I was able to pull out a long piece of yarn that I used to re-weave the holes...
"I'm bad, I'm bad, I know it!"
Now that the stitches were out and the holes patched, I was ready to try out my new "shawl." I'm sure most, if not all of you, saw the problem I was going to have...the problem I never saw until I went to toss it, with great panache mind you, over my shoulders...
AAAAarrrrggghhh! There's a big gap in the middle of my "shawl!" What a genius! I'm bad alright, just not in a good way! ![]()
Okay, I said to myself, let's not panic...no need to beat your (stooopid) self up. Maybe I could just toss the flaps over my shoulders. Oh yeah? What the heck do I do about that looooong flap in the back?!
"Here she comes to save the day.
MacMighty Mouse is on her way!"
I took a nap, hoping to get inspired. I thought of sewing it together. A quick basting stitch disabused me of that idea.
I took another nap and figured I could just hide the problem (after all, I do quite well in that regard vis-à-vis BotticelliBelli hahahahaha!), but the flaps kept falling down and you could see the top of the gap. Nope.
Another nap...third time's a charm? I could turn it sideways I suppose and spend ten annoying minutes arranging it just so, then pinning it in place...
Yeah, it looks okay, but I know I won't get much use out of it...who wants to spend ten danged minutes arranging a "shawl?" Not me, that's for sure!
It's a shame, too, because it's a very pretty design. Why couldn't I find something like this in a pullover cashmere sweater?! It's always something, I tell ya.
Maybe I could wear it as a pareo on the beach...or fold it and throw it on the back of a chair...or put it in a shadow box and hang it on the wall...or put it in my hope chest for posterity...or....![]()
I hope all of you lovely ladies have a great week!

You made my week!
On a positive note, I do like the end styling result.
Beautiful color.

Your perseverance and patience impress!!!! When you are a talented person you can have options even if some do not work. The pattern is very pretty and I would use it as a throw over a chair or couch , or make a pillow cover since I do not share sewing skills.
Thanks for the smiles!!!!!

Just cut it in half lengthwise the rest of the way and you'll have two shawls, lol.

😹 Photo #3 looks as though you're holding up your big girl pants, and sharing with us that you lost 400 pounds on NutriSystem Never Go Hungry Plan.

@MacDuFF. Remind yourself that creative achievement never comes without some pain. In the end it looks darn good but I bet you never again have the patience to artfully arrange it.

@MacDuFF: OMG. What can I say about your blog this week? I'm crying- laughing so hard WITH you!
That fabric is a beautiful print and probably so soft. Maybe you can use it in some capacity as a decor item- IDK. Maybe another nap will yield the answer.
First week in September, and my fall thrifting has begun:
Charles Tyrwhitt men's Merino 1/4 zip charcoal sweater
CK light gray cable knit dress with shawl collar.
Pearl stud earrings. A basic missing from my jewelry wardrobe
Thrift splurge from the same store where I bought the pearl earrings: Magaschoni black cashmere cropped hoodie with fox trim, probably originally sold at NM or maybe Bloomies, certainly $600.00+. $55.00.
I am noticing that my fave thrift stores have all increased their prices. No escaping inflated prices, even at thrift.
A reminder to check several sizes when thrift shopping and always look through the men's racks.
Have a good and stylish week all.

I feel your pain. I just donated a big box of scarves--some new, some expensive, some used once or twice.
Problem? I hate scarves! I hate messing with them, fussing, rearranging, then remembering I just don't care for them most of the time. I bought them because . . ![]()
