Hi fashion friends.
I gave up, for now, on finding exactly what I'm looking for in at-home lounge wear. In the meantime, I purged and rearranged my cobbled-together lounge wear and now have a small dedicated section of my closet for the few things I kept.
My low-buy thrift-only challenge hasn't been an epic failure, but it hasn't been a rousing success either. I set-up an eBay account about three months ago and had some hits, some misses. Overall, it's not going to be my favorite place to shop, but it works for finding items I already own/love at great prices.
Instead of mindlessly browsing eBay (which I did for about a month), I have several saved searches that I check daily. For instance, I've been wearing my dark wash Rag & Bone joggers a lot in the few years I've owned them, especially for at-home wear (perfect for napping haha). I found a pre-owned pair in a lighter wash at a great price $75-ish w/S&H...new they're $225, which, I happen to think is worth it, but I'm not going to actually pay that price! I plan to buy at least one more pair.
Other pre-set searches are silk base layers, cashmere sweaters, Chico's no-iron linen blouses, and a few other specific items and brands I always look for on the secondary market.
Ebay prices and S&H costs are all over the map. I learned the hard way to filter my searches to include that the seller accepts returns and pays for it. Delivery times and returns have been stellar so far. Bottom line is I like eBay, but don't love it.
We went to the beach for a few days this week and had perfect weather, good fishing, and fun thrifting. (Today was the first fall-ish day this season. We'll rollercoaster between summer weather and early fall weather for a few weeks.) Here are three pieces I thrifted at a consignment shop in Oak Island, NC.
#1 I'm starting with the one I ended up hating so much that it's already in the donation bag. It's a clown blouse on me is what it is! You may be looking at it and wondering what the heck I'm talking about, but I took one look at these pics and saw "clown blouse." Add big, ballooning, striped pants, floppy red clown shoes, multi-colored fright wig, clown nose and paint, and I've got the makings of a halloween costume.
This pic gives you a better idea of what I mean...it's too billowy and polka-dotty. It has too many artsy!! details from too-cutesy buttons to tulip edge cuffs to matching tulip edge side seams to flowery button placket and matching trim on sleeve. File under what the heck was I thinking.
#2 That's okay, though, because I loooved this one. Chico's pomegranate (cranberry?) linen blend with daisy appliques. Perfect fall transition piece. Right up my alley as far as uniforms go. Has a dupioni silky sheen and feel...a substantial mid-weight.
The beaded appliques are pink...two are on the back shoulder and one is in front. Why the he## the middle one looks orange I have no idea, but it ticks me off that's for sure...we can go to the moon, but can't get realistic color from a mobile device, whyyy?!
#3 I feel sure this one is going to be worn a lot and be in my closet for years...a great piece that I love. Adrienne Vittadini poly quilted vest with ribbed stand collar (it's already popped for me YAY!). Perfect for late fall...
Add my BB Dakota coat, and it's perfect for winter, too...
I hope all you lovely ladies have a great week.

You have some nice pieces, and I agree the first blouse just isn't you.

I really like look #3 the Adrienne Vittadini poly quilted vest. I would wear it the same way you styled it.
I did a closet reorganization today and had several 'what was I thinking' tops. Yeesh, into the donation bag they went. As I was going thru my old work totes and bags I found $540 in the inside zipper of an otherwise empty looking bag. Have no idea why I had the money in that pocket. But lol, I am spending it on shoes and pants. 😀

@MacDuFF : Hello friend!
ITA with every word written about ebay. I shop it just as you do, and very infrequently. I can't recall the last fashion item I bought there. I'm sure it has been many months. Sellers are good and shipping is a lot faster than QVC, but prices have increased -a lot.
Your clown blouse: very pretty, but not your tailored style. We all regress occasionally to our previous styles. Someone else will love it.
Your other beach thrift finds are perfect. Love that blouse and a great fitting vest is a staple. So happy that your enjoyed a quick trip to the beach. I hope Mr. Handsome caught some fish. Your "catches" were great!
Fall fashions have hit the thrift stores and several came home with me this week.
100% cotton l/s tee in a happy, multi color print,Tencel shirt, cotton slub w/ crochet trim top, velour lounge top, more cotton and Pima.
Labels including Tommy Hilfiger, IML and WH/BM.
Best buys: a cocoa-color handknit Irish wool cardi for $5.00 and a 100% linen fully lined blazer for $9.00.
Also- 2 bags: a VB convertible shoulder /crossbody. Good medium size. $3.00 and a navy leather crossbody in excellent condition for $20. Remember the brand Perlina NY sold way back in the day on QVC and elsewhere? Absolutely butter soft leather. Classic style, perfect medium size.
Not ever saying I have been low buy, unless referring to retail fashion buys. I have one arriving today- a red jean jacket from WM. We'll see if it makes the cut.
This week I plan to hit my 2 fave thrifts which are a bit of a drive, one of which is having their semi-annual "designer" sale. Spring sale was just OK, but I can't resist the thrill of a designer label thrift sale.
Have a great week and thanks as always for sharing your weekly WIW.

For the longest time I rarely purchased from Ebay. However recently I have started to make a few purchases.
If I see something that I like here on the Q and it's a popular item that has been around for a while but is still current, I go over to Ebay and see if they have the same item offered new. I can access the size chart here (uusually the sellers on Ebay don't add them), and have saved a lot by doing this.
A top that typically costs $60.00 here can go for $25.00 or less on Ebay and is often offered with free shipping!
I just can't browse Ebay. I have better success by knowing what I want and seeing if they have it.

@MacDuFF I like all of your outfits, even the clown blouse. 🤡
I agree that it is too much material~a "generous" cut. Tailored fitted tops and blouses are your friend. Which leads me to the cranberry Chicos blouse. Love, love, love it!!! It fits you perfectly and you look "mahvelous".
Enjoy your week and keep on thrifting.

@MacDuFF ...I love all your looks. My favorite is the clown blouse. I think I like it better styled in your first picture but, I agree, it's not really your style. My second favorite is the quilted vest.

I agree with you on the first blouse. It looks fine on you, but I'm not crazy about the sleeves, and I've never been a polka dot print person.
Nice cranberry shirt. I have a red RL button front shirt, but mine doesn't have embroidery. Love shades of red with denim jeans. I can totally relate to your comment about the lack of color accuracy in photos. I've noticed that when I take & post some of my photos for the OOTD thread.
You look great in that quilted vest. I'm not a vest person. I think all the years of wearing a school uniform with a vest turned me off to them. I think they look great on others and are nice pieces in cool weather.
I've never bought anything from eBay. I had an account ages ago and looked at items, but never purchased. I am really enjoying shopping my local consignment stores. Finding some nice pieces and good deals. Several years ago I wouldn't have ever considered buying used clothing.
Have a Great Week! 🍁

Fun to see your outfits! You look great, I love your vest and second shirt but it all looks good because you carry it well.

Love the second blouse. Great color for you.
