I first thought of wooden Geisha shoes, so I Googled.

I wasn't expecting them to be this high!

Off topic...h.o.w. do they walk in these things?!

They were created so that the women who wore them could not run away...true story. @sidsmom Also, the traditional kimono dress was made narrow at the bottom to further restrict movement. Old Japanese history...women were considered property and treated like slaves...decorative slaves.

That style was popular in the early 1970s.

As long as there's great arch support and some cushioning.  8)

With the slight platform under the front part, there's more balance and stability.

And some are actually not as heavy as they might appear.

I'm a jeans and tee person, but you can always make your outfit less casual with accessories or by wearing black on top or bottom.

I like the ones Fly London makes, but I'd kill myself in those.

I had a pair of shoes like that in 1978 when I was a senior in high school. We called them platforms then.  They were suprisingly comfy, but I was 18 at the time, and styling.

Re: What Do You Think Of Flatforms? (Not platforms).

I bought a pair of black flatform sandals in NYC in the early 90's.  Any kind of platform shoe style had not made it back to Michigan at that time.  I wore them proudly even when I was teased with Herman Munster comments.

They've been around for many years. For those who can -- rock it!  However I cannot wear this style at all.  At 5'7" with a size 10 foot, these shoes make me look like the Bride of Frankenstein.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, our former First Lady and beloved fashion icon, Jacqueline Kennedy was also 5'7" and wore a size 10 shoe!
