I would wear the cardigan only on cool days when I didn't need a coat over it. I also agree with the idea of carrying it in a tote bag and waiting to put it on at work.

unless its brutally cold out, i just wear a longer sweater. gloves and a scarf.   in the winter i leave my coat in the car if i plan to be shopping in a mall or store for a while.  i have a down coat that makes me boil if i wear it in a store.
