Waterproofing boots?

I was wondering if there is a way to waterproof my soft leather and suede boots. Just enough so that I can wear them without having to worry about getting caught in the rain and ending up with discolored drops all over my boots. And if there is a way to do this, does the product used discolor the leather? I really wouldn't mind if it changed the color a bit, but I'm just really bummed that I have to choose my footwear according to the forecast.
