Agree that sally field looks frumpy in her dress. It must have looked better in real life. 
I don't think that Sally was ever really into the Red Carpet fashion scene. Personally, I doubt that she has a "stylist" on staff or call these days. And stylists really weren't "a thing" in the 1980s.
Her are her two dresses from her Oscar wins (April 1980 and March 1985); she definitely stepped up the glamor in 2013 for her third nomination.
