Re: Use of "color" words to describe items

Nude is just a color name, and my thought goes to that beige color when it is mentioned.  Not to skin color.  No one is beige.  And, no one is black either.  What will you do about that one?

how would you describe the color of these shoes?  they do look pale pink in the photo, but that's me.

@ladyroxanne

I tried to find a photo that best displays the "nude" I have heard them reference on air.

These are called "natural nubuck."

Brown is not on the colorwheel and is made up of all the colors together (so is black-more violet).  Your eye may pick up the red because red violet, pure violet, and red are all there plus a lot of white.

Re: Use of "color" words to describe items

If someone takes it upon him or herself to become as sophisticated as the Christian Louboutin company and ad agency, there should be no objection to the word "nude" as a color.

Perhaps it "used" to be thought of as only the color of a Caucasian person's skin, but that has changed as have so many other things.

Even "normal" colors such as green, blue, or red come in many different shades, tints, and hues.  So why not "nude"?

Let's stop trying to make one size fit all, and understand that there are differences even in one name, and that it's quite all right for there to be differences.

These could each be called "nude."  These are foundation shades to match complexions, which are by extension one's color of skin:

I have a lipstick in nude, a lip liner in bare, a powder in buff and an eye shadow pallet referred to as the nakeds.    It's all good with me.
