I was looking at robes on the Vermont Country Store site and saw a couple that reminded me of a vintage style. They were chenille sculpted robes.

Remember those chenille robes with flowers, vines, scrolling, butterflies, even dogs sculpted on them? They were multi-colored. Back in the 1980's, I was on a buying trip & saw a showroom filled with a variety of styles.

Back then, the chenille was heavy & sometimes they shed. But the styles were uplifting, cozy, & cute. I'd like to see those vintage style robes made in today's lighter weight & shed-free fabrics. And matching slippers.

Do you miss any robe styles that are no longer made?

We sold those robes in the late '90's and early 2000's.  Brad Pitt wore one in Fight Club and Fran Drescher wore them on The Nanny. They were heavy weight, but did not shed. The price was up there, but nothing could compare.

I do miss the Stan Herman robes I had years ago.  He made the best chenille.  He said they were very expensive to make so that is why he doesn't make them anymore.

I remember those robes.  I didn't have one but I'm pretty sure Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz did!  LOL

We lived in Tennessee when I was a kid.  People in the country sold chenille goods and displayed them on their clotheslines.  I remember seeing bedspreads with huge peacocks on them.  Even as a child I thought they were hideous.

Yes, absolutely! And I love the Vermont Country Store. I've been there to shop and adore their catalog.

Re: Those Robes

[ Edited ]

I remember the robes and the bedspreads. They shed like crazy and I believe the robes were heavy.  I never had one.  It was 30 to 40 years ago and I was too young that type of robe.  My mom and my aunts wore them.  I did have chenille bed spreads.  No. I dont miss chenille or anything else from the 80s.

@Desertdi.  They got bald because little kids like you picked at them.  Don't forget what your face and arms looked like when you awoke from a nap.
