When I worked I wore scrubs, now that I'm retired, I don't need a lot of new clothes and shoes, but when I see the new season's styles, I still want them. I'm getting better about not buying a bunch of new clothes, but shoes are my downfall. I have a ridiculous number of shoes, and I keep buying them, it's a sickness, LOL👠👡👟

Pearly - You know me too well. When I retired - They made me promise that I would come back and work when needed. So I did keep some dress slacks and tops for those occasions.
AND I have had to attend 3 funerals since I retired. So I also kept about 3 "funeral outfits". I will have to go through and make sure all seasons are covered before I get rid of any more dress clothes.
Thank you for the helpful hints.

I attend church each Sunday, attend several luncheons per month, play cards, bunco and do volunteer work. I like to dress and although I don't buy as much as I did when I was gainfully employed, I still like to dress nice, professionally and I mix casual and dress (pants can be worn with casual or dress). I wear some sweaters semi-dress and casual. I have learned to mix them to get the most wear from what I purchase. I don't dress totally casual playing cards and bunco, but not as dressed as I would for a lucnheon, etc.

During my career, I dressed "business casual" Most days I wore pants, sweaters, light jackets and nice flats. I had limited items that you would call weekend wear. Leggings and athletic wear was worn in the house only.
When I retired, I shifted my wardrobe to casual-weekend. I spent a lot on skinny jeans in various colors, ankle jeans, leggins, tunic tops, tees and sneakers.
It's been 3 years since retirement. I have not gotten used to such casual dressing. If I have on a cute pair of skinny jeans, I dont feel put together with just a tee shirt. I have to have a jacket or sweater.
I miss my wool blend Lafayette pants, cashmere sweater and woven leather loafers. Maybe its my life that I miss..............

I retired from a profession and went into the other area I loved which involved color in a different way which allowed me to still use my training in a different capacity and I get paid for what I enjoy. I'm not one to stay at home and enjoy going out every few days. I've already volunteered for ten years during another time.
Do what makes you happy. Since openings for positions go down markedly January-March, you may want to look for something in the spring.

I retired 7 years ago and still buy clothes. I have fairly active life. I live in Manhattan... and I'm out doing something several days a week that I need to "dress" for.
I have a "thing" about shoes. I think so far in 2017, I bought 5 pairs. Since I live in the city, I don't drive and do lots of walking. I need lots of shoes. I never wear the same shoes two days in a row, and different shoes go with different clothes.
My lifestyle requires a lot of clothes and shoes and bags.

I retired on 3/15/17 and I am still spending a lot on clothes. One month after I retired I ran into a knee problem that requires me to wear a brace. As such, I bought about 10 pairs of very light, wide leg pants which I wear with a polo shirt every day. Then I fell in love with some Barefoot Dreams items and purchased about 4 things which I will not be able to wear until it gets cooler. I also did some substitute teacher work after I retired and bought quite a few logo cardigans to finish off my school outfits. Many were "as is" items and they were as good as new. I just love to shop and it is difficult for me to slow down. Hopefully as time goes by I get used to having fewer clothes. I will say, I am quite good at packing up the QVC items I don't like and making sure to return them within the 30 day time limit.
Kudos to you women who cut down significantly on clothing purchases after retirement.

I still buy clothes, mostly tops, not to be trendy but just because I see one I like.

I still buy lots of clothing. I would get bored wearing the same clothes all the time if I didn't buy what I like. I go through a lot of walking shoes and like to have a variety of different colors. I still buy a lot of jeans and tops when I see something I like.
