Not QVC models.   they reflect their audience.  From about 30 to 60.  Generally high fashion models start at 15.  Some at 13.  If the 13 year old is tall and thin, & her breasts have not fully developed....then she's fine for high fashion.  One reason girls start very young in modeling.  She can model under 18, just that usually her mother comes with her.  Kate Moss started at 14, Gemma Ward at 13, Naomi Campbell started at 16 (she's second generation model, as her mother was one).  Usually the most successful model started under the age of 17.

Per Kate Moss.  She's only 5'6"  but she reached that height when she was 14.  She was rail thin too.  The modeling agnecy thought she would grow in height, but she didn't.  That was the reason she was signed to an agency at 14.

Why can't they do both? And who are you to decide what's best for them and their lives? Many young adults are not interested in college..why should they attend and rack up thousands of dollars of debt just because society thinks it "the right thing to do"?These young women have an excellent oppurtunity to earn some money, see the world, and gain some life experience. They can always go to college later as adults.

I went to college as an 18 year old right out of high school..it was a waste of my time and my parent's money. I was far too immature and unfocused. After working for 10 years I went back to school and graduated with my Bachelor's degree at 32. Now I am in a Master's program at 40. Many young people are taking non-traditional paths nowadays, because I hate to break it to you but that granddaughter of yours still has to graduate and find a job in an increasingly competetive workforce.

Re: The young girls who model

You can't be talking about Qvc models, Qvc doesn't have any young models.  Never did.  There's heck of a lot more to professional modeling than being pretty and tall and thin and young.  Many a young woman wishes that was all it took.  I'm not sure what you think modeling is.  It is a career and like with all careers that do not require a degree; some young women have college degrees and some don't.  Some model to pay their way through school.  Some do it to supplement their incomes.  The vast majority of models are not super models, most are not Giselle.  It is work and not easy work.  I have a friend who had daughter who modeled professional in NYC for about 10 years, from her late teens through her late 20's.  She's in her late 30's now; married with son.  She wasn't famous but she worked steadily for 10 years and made a bundle of money.  I remember she once said something like  "have high heels, will travel" to describe her career.  She did catalog work and trade shows and smaller runway shows but she saved enough money to pay cash for her home after she married.

Re: The young girls who model

Both Brooke Shields and Christie Turlington (my favorite) got their advanced degrees, Princeton and Columbia respectively, after they made lots of money.

While I hear nothing of the HSN models other jobs, with the exception of some of the older ones,  both the Q and evine models do it part time. A few of the Q models are nurses and a couple of the evine models are Vikings cheerleaders and another is a social worker. I've heard other careers mentioned but suffice to say they've all got full time jobs...

        Wow, 30 plus years with shopping channels and I have never heard a model give out her resume.  Which of the Qvc models are nurses?

@chrystaltree

 one was a Wen girl because Chaz mentioned it. I can picture her but I can't think of her name. Short shoulder bob. She looks very young but apparently has a few kids....medium brown hair...Doesn't model clothing much but I have seen her doing QF

The other was mentioned by a host and Sheila keeps popping into my head but I don't think that's correct...

Incidentally the models never 'give out their resumes' it's someone else that mentions it.

I'm sure like many of the early 20's group, they're continuing their education.

As a former teacher, I mentored quite a lot when I worked after retirement for a major anchor at the mall.  Many were picking up hours around their classes to pay for their cars, car insurance and to have some spending money.  Medical coding is a big favorite.

You are acting like Modeling is not a career or something?  They can make a great income.....many of the models on QVC have been working for YEARS.  A college degree is no free lunch to get a job....or even a job that pays much... most students own so much on loans they finish school and end up in debt for 20 years paying it off.

Forgoing a a college degree is perfectly acceptable.
