There are many successful actors who came from very middle class families or even poor families and made it. Some are just very talented and got lucky, maybe, and some might be extremely beautiful or handsome. That certainly gets their foot in the door. It helps to have connections but sometimes a person is just in the right place at the right time. I do think most "movie stars" are better looking than the average person, but I am often amazed at how plain some of them look without makeup on. They must have charisma or some connection with the camera.

omg...

A lovely lady! I saw a wonderful interview with her on Sunday Morning a few weeks back and because of that we went to see Nebraska (loved it!). She ROCKED that roll! I thought Ellen was totally RUDE to her (yelling at her in the audience like she was hard of hearing) and snarky to Liza too. Jim Carey was a total jerk to Bruce Dern and I heard someone else tell the audience to ""sit down because you are all old"" or something like that. I guess the only people who are still fair game for poking fun at are senior citizens. Rude.

Very few from poor families. The majority have some connections. As far as handsome or beauty lets be real not many of them are that great looking.I see better in everyday living without piling on all the paint. These are just silver spooners who made it.Yes there are a few who made it on their own.I just don't find these people that beautiful.I will say though the actresses from my mothers generation 1940's and up were way more beautiful.

Don't forget older women in the entertainment business have challenges and body image issues that we, thankfully, do not have. So, if plastic surgery boosts their self esteem or helps them get jobs, so be it. If they are happy with results, who are we to criticize?
Men are not foolish enough to ruin their face for vanity.
Yes, men do have surgery...and badly....Kenny Rogers, Wayne Newton, OMG!

My 90 year old mom and dad didn't see the end of the show.. they missed what they called, "the ladies prize" and the best movie.
Why? Because Ellen came on at one point towards the end and jokingly said the show was over. They thought it was over and turned it off.

I also saw Eva Marie Saint, she is 89 she is still beautiful, she may have some wrinkles but I couldn't believe she was 89 and truly amazing - a natural beauty.
Meryl Streep is still getting plenty of rolls and is still a natural beauty same with Dame Judy Dench, June Squibb is 84 and a beauty, beautiful skin - Sally Field also still natural

Add Burt Reynolds, and Billy Crystal.
