Thank you for explaining to the ladies what leggings REALLY are. It's one of my pet peeves and the misuse of the word leggings in fashion has led to some fashion disasters. I wish other designers would follow your lead in this area.

Gladly, I'm paraphrasing but he said there is a difference between leggings and pants. There are very skinny, very stretchy pants. They are pants not leggings. Leggings are similar to to tights but thicker and footless. And he had the models dressed appropriately for his leggings. I've always known this so it was nice to hear a professional explain it.

That makes a lot of sense. I have a pair of black leather leggings I got from Neiman-Marcus. They fit that description and not that of pants.
Thanks for posting this. I missed the comment.

Not all leggings are created equally.
Right now I'm wearing a pair of ponte knit with seaming detail in the front and back; very dense.
Nothing like tights!

Leggings are meant to be worn under something, as in a tunic top. Not meant to show the rear.
Pants are worn with a top tucked in or not. Not usually skin tight.

Helps to explain my aversion to "leggings". My problem with them is just that when someone is wearing the thinner ones they forget that when they lean over many things become very obvious. Things best hidden.

It's apparent not even designers agree on the definition of leggings.
When I was a child, leggings were pants we wore under our dresses to keep us warm in the winter. We thought if you wore them it meant you were a baby. The advent of tights was a game changer.

That depends if you are a pre-teen, teen, 20-30 something and/or have a banging body like.....
Hallie Berry age 50 after 2 children
Nicole Murphy age 48 after 5 children
Cher age 70, after 2 children
