I never shop at Target but have experienced the same at other stores.

I agree...GO EARLY...to any store if at all possible!

It is the way of retail now.  W/ profits down at all B&M and the huge competition of the Internet, businesses are looking for ways to cut costs.

The days of personal service are long gone.  You'd be lucky to find an associate to direct you let alone help you find something.

Sadly, this is the way business has changed.

Pls. don't take this the wrong way...but what is the rush?  Are you on your lunch break?

Why let something like this get you so upset?  YES, everyone's time is valuable but stressing over long lines will do nothing but aggravate you!

If retired, working PT, or off....relax.  This is the way of things.  Try not to let things out of your control ruin your day.

@RespectLife

I am retired now.  I am not ready to keel over about this --- LOl!  I have a lot of patience.  However, I do know the way this store used to be and I am surprised and disappointed at the way the service has gone down hill.  Also, my time is just as valuable as anyone else's.  Who feels like waiting in long, long lines, especially to check your self out??  I know that on-line shooping has severely affected B&M shopping.  I prefer to do shopping in real stores to help my local economy.

I love Target. Their security man found my bag that I left in the cart back around Xmas time and put it in their safe behind the CS Desk. when I discovered I had lost all my belongings, license, credit cards, medical cards on and on like that I was about ready to die. I thought I had left in cart had keys in my hand , so, I took off to go eat and then discovered I had no purse! therefore, no money to eat. LOL

I drove back to Target like a mad woman and it took me awhile , but, finally the security man said he just found a purse in the cart over there by the

private door the staff uses and kept it there at Customer Service Desk

I was so happy when I inquired again if a bag had been bought in and the man handed it to me. I checked and all was safe!!!!!!!

never forget that day !    I wrote a letter of recommendation to Target on their Facebook page told them how that guy made my Xmas and said

to put him down for a raise. He sure saved my cookies. talk about ID theft !

My bank card was in there, also.  My husband would had, had a heart attack!   This guy was my Christmas Angel !

@SharkE

That's wonderful!  You don't find that just any where.  I have no issue with the people who work at Target personally.  My issue is merely with the lack of check-out people.  Which is not the check-out worker's problem.  I know it is management.

In their defense, the software is much better than some.

@Still Raining

I'm not attacking the whole store --- just the lack of check-out personnel.

I have similar experiences at our closest Target but I don't fault the company; it's individual managment.

In so many chains, i.e., Publix, TJs, Walmart, etc., I've had entirely different experiences from one store to another (within the same chain)

While I can name a gazillion good reasons not to shop Walmart we do on occasion and go to the one that's further away from us because the difference in customer service is night and day! The same with the Trader Joes! We go just a little further for the much more pleasant experience...

@Andreatoo

Yes, I know what you mean.  Just like restaurant chains.  One will be good and then another terrible.

I personally have walked out of stores rather than wait in a long long line for checkout.  I put my stuff on the nearest flat surface, and leave.  I know the sales clerks must hate me, but I loath waiting in a long long line just to pick up a few items that I rarely need anyway.   They need to staff the stores better.

Just the other days, I walked out of Macy's because the one working associate was helping another person with some sort of problem with her account.  I did not need that pair of earrings anyway.

@Peaches McPhee

I know what you mean.  I am a patient person and I do take my time and wait.  But sometimes it just gets to be too much.  I never go in a store any more with the expectation that I am going to "dash right in and dash right out".  I know those days are over!

@AngelPuppy1.  It doesn't do much good to complain to us about what goes on at Target.  Why don't you go to their website, look for "contact us" and tell them about your experience.  Be sure to identify the store.  It may be a matter of inept management.  Corporate needs to know about it.

@Kachina624

I was not meaning to complain to you!  I was just stating my experience at my particular store and wondering if some people here had similar experiences at their stores.  Sorry if you felt that was all I was doing.  I know that I need to voice my lack of satisfaction with the source.  Thanks for your reply.

@Carmie wrote:

Target is not my favorite store, but there is one very close to me.

Last fall when my knees were killing me and I could hardly walk, I ordered parchment paper and waxed paper on their website.  The website said I could just park my car in their pick up area and someone would bring it to my car.

After I hit the button to complete the transaction, I found out that my local store does not offer that service.  I would have to go inside the store to pick up the items.  I then gott an e-mail saying the wax paper was not in stock and they would issue me a refund.

The info on their website was misleading.

At that time, I realized that there was no way I was going to try to walk into Target to get a box of parchment paper when I was in so much pain, so I cancelled that order.

The refund came via e-mail with " gift certificate" a bar code attached for the wax paper and another e-mail for the parchment paper...with no bar code attached.

So, I am out of $8 and some change.  I haven't been in Target since then and don't intend to do any shopping there...ever.

I do not like their business practices at all and I refuse to waste my time on the phone for a couple of dollars.

@Carmie

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.  It's disheartening when something like this happens!

I find my Target store customer friendly and never have problems checking out. They have many cashiers. They have self checkout but they go fast.

They have many items I purchase. Their clothing is nice and prices are reasonable. I guess I am fortunate that I don't experience your shopping snaufus.

@elated

I like their merchandise and the personnel are friendly.  I don't have any issues with these things.  Only with the lack of personnel to check you out.

Walmart is the same way they want you to use those self checkouts and the person in there who is trying to watch and help all the people is running around like chicken with head off.

Nobody wants to pay nobody to be a checker they figure you will still come to Walmart, regardless or shop online.

@SharkE

Yes, it's a shame, isn't it?  I know it's the way of the world these days.  We're all just supposed to "like it or lump it".  We pay more for getting less.  As for Walmart, I do go there, but not saying I really like it!
