I have two "regular" Talbots stores near me in differnt towns. One is a large standalone store and the other is smaller in a tiny strip mall with 4 other stores. No outlets anywhere in my area but it's fine with me. I think the reasons for inconsistent sizing at Talbots is due to the fact that they don't design and manufacture their own clothing. An investment Company owns Talbots. I believe they acquire their apparel from outside manufacturers, unlike many well known designers i.e. Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, etc who design and manufacturer their appareal (unless it specifically states that they collaborated with another brand on something - which they periodically do).

I was a little despondent yesterday after perusing the site for tops/sweaters in my size. Of course, it's the tail end of the sale, so I'm seeing stuff I've seen for months. But even the new arrivals just didn't wow me. My tastes usually for the simple, but many of the items were either adorned in a way that was not for me or had style elements that I wasn't crazy about.
But then....I checked out Ann Taylor (I have occasionaly purchased in the past). I couldn't run fast enough back to Talbots. :-) For one, the AT site drives me crazy; but more important, I couldn't make heads or tails of some of their tops and sweaters.
I'll stick with Talbots.

@suzyQ3- the new arrivals haven’t been wowing me either. Except for the pink polka dot cardigan came in and sold out before I could order it.

@gidgetgh, and not much left is even available online. I don't feel like going to the trouble of hunting them down via customer service.
But alas, I did give in and order two items. One is a another color of a sweater that I love (the scallop-edged sweater). I have it a pale pink and a wineberry color, so I added a black. Here is the pink for better detail:
I also bought a new item -- a pique top that I think will be great for spring and summer, if it fits. The pic makes it looks as if there's a flounce at the bottom; it's just how the high-low hem looks:
My total came to 51 cents short of required $100 that would get me the $20 discount, but CS to the rescue. :-) They really are superb.

@suzyQ3- I have that sweater! I’m glad customer service helped you out.

I tried on that pink sweater at the store. The material was a little odd IMO and kinda heavy in an odd way and the neckline was a bit too low for me. Good thing; there was plenty I ended up buying during the red hanger sale instead. ![]()
