Suede in summer

Was watching a show (think it was accessories) with Courtney. She was showing a pair of sandals made of leather and suede.

She was trying to say suede is okay in summer. I personally would NOT wear suede in spring or summer. I find it a total fall/winter type of item. I don't blame her for saying that, she was trying to sell them!

Please, I am not insulting anyone who finds it fine to wear suede in summer. To each his own. But, I think it is way more common to leave suede to fall/winter.

I don't really buy into fashion rules like suede is for fall and white is for summer, green nail polish shouldn't be worn over 50, or anything else. They seem arbitrary and silly to me.

If it were a suede jacket or pants, I would agree because there's no way I'm wearing any type of leather jacket or pants in the central Texas spring or summer. It was 89 degrees here on the last day of February. But I would wear suede sandals - maybe even suede boots. (But not right now - it's been raining all month.)

I agree with @ChynnaBlue - for the most part. I do follow the "white rule," just to remember my mom, my aunt, and my grandmother. It's my way of doing it. I certainly don't flinch if I see anyone else in white before Memorial Day!

I have Clarks wedge sandals in a pretty turquoise suede, which of course I wear in the summer. But I wouldn't wear anything leather or suede that would be hot!

Suede is almost a contradiction when it comes to shoes.

Yes, it used to be that suede was only worn in colder months. I imagine it's due to the texture of suede, making it seem almost "fuzzy," in which that kind of texture could make someone feel warmer.

For sandals or even closed shoes, however, if you think about the weather, there is more opportunity for drier weather in warmer months (at least in some areas) and therefore suede might be less likely to become spotted or otherwise damaged by rain. And that might be a good argument for wearing suede sandals in spring/summer. Especially since suede is leather, and we already wear leather shoes or sandals in all seasons.

None of this applies to garments meant to keep you warm, like coats or jackets.

I sometimes wear a leather skirt in spring and summer. Honestly do not find them any more uncomfortable than some of my fabric skirts. I wear leather sandals and shoes throughout the year. Just my personal experience.

I would not wear a suede coat or jacket in the summer but I think suede shoes are OK - especially sandals!

I have to agree with OP- I find suede a fall/winter material.

Like linen is a summer, hot weather material.

I have some suede footwear for summer and don't feel the least bit weird wearing them.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

I just saw some suede sandals I would wear. They are in a summery style. I don't know if they are treated for wet weather though. If the style says summer then it is fine if the material isn't commonly used that time of year. It is similar to unbuckle, which is common in summer.
