Re: Stylists? Credentials...

Ahhh, Stacy and Clinton.  I loved What Not to Wear.

@Jackyl I did, too, but I always felt bad when they would have the person get a 4 or 5 hundred dollar purse or expensive shoes or boots.  I always felt I could have done better with the $5000 than they did.  Not to say that their styling suggestions weren't good for the individuals body.

"Good" is in the eye of the beholder.  You don't get to dress famous people unless you have a sharp eye for whatever it is that captures the public at that time.

But to broadly answer your question, I think anyone can call themselves just about anything these days.  I am so tired of the word influencer, for example.  But there it is, and it seems here to stay.  You can be whatever right out of the gate.  But unless you can back it up with impressive credentials, it means little to me.

QVC has labeled Nancy Hornback a "Lifestyle Expert,"and she uses that title nearly every time she introduces herself in all her shows now.  I don't even know what lifestyle expert means.

Seriously????  I've never heard them call her that.  (Nancy Hornback a "Lifestyle Expert,"  I've heard her call herself a gem specialist but apparently she went to school for that and got her "degree."  I don't care what they call themselves.  I am my own stylist.  Like Kim keeps saying her items make you look like a million bucks.  That's not what I think.

@rms1954  Yes.  Nancy mentions it in some of her [non-jewelry] shows.  It also appears often in her social media accounts.  It started sometime during the summer months.

Egads, it must be some sort of personal validation to add these monikers to their name.......life style expert, stylist, gem expert......  I know it doesn't cause me to take them any more serious.

@tends2dogs

while it would have been great fun to see one of the victims take the 5k to target and stay within the 'rules' it was free money...and the 'stylists' actually gave great advice while keeping to their style and respective body type.

Re: Stylists? Credentials...

I don't think that QVC's stylists do a very good job. They are constantly dressing models with scarves and jackets that cover up the top for sale underneath. They usually don't put outfits together that make me wish to buy and I expect them to be better at putting outfits together than me or any other person but they are not better. Katie, the model would make a good stylist. She knows how to make items present well. She's a master with wigs, jewelry, accessories, putting clothing pieces together. She knows what flatters and helps a sale. QVC ought to hire her as their chief stylist.

@Mindy D

The QVC stylists are pretty bad! They do not dress the models for their respective body types which in turn doesn't show the garment in its best light.

Louis Del'olio is a fabulous stylist! Just watch any linea show. He styles all the models

There are those that make a good living as a stylist , are well respected, and do a great job but the fact that it's not a profession that requires a degree there are those who call themself a stylist simply because they can. A true working stylist should have lots of references and a thick portfolio

This sounds like a legal scam to make money from poor souls who really think that their "certification" would many anything.

@suzyQ3

I had the same thought. There are so many of those out there it's really disheartening what people are willing to do to others.

Here's one that's been going strong for decades: you buy a home, public record, and shortly thereafter you receive an offer that for just $50.00 (or it could be higher now) this very official looking company can provide you with a certified copy of your Deed!

first of all the homeowner has the original once it's been recorded but even if they did want a certified copy they can order themselves directly from the clerk of court for approximately 3 or 4 bucks depending on how many pages!

I work for a probate/real estate attorney and I can't count how many phone calls I've received since the beginning of my employment asking about it. And those are just the ones who bother to look in to it!

@Lipstickdivado you come across the same thing in Ohio?

Re: Stylists? Credentials...

I have to say that I am not in awe of some "stylists" .   Seems they tend to favor the same outfits over and over again.   Maybe that is their style but not everyones.
